I posted this in the audio/security/video section but seeing as its specific to the ITR i hope the mods don't mind me posting here too as it may get a better response....
I was wiring in a volt meter today, i didn't want it reading all the time so decided to wire it to an ignition wire, so i pulled out the cigarette lighter in my ITR and cut the ignition wire and hooked in to it and took an earth from it also. I plugged everything back in again and reconnected the battery and switched on the ignition, the volt meter lit up (I took power for the illumination from the ashtray light wiring) the needle flickered up for a second and then returned to '0'. I checked all the wiring and it was ok. I then noticed that the stereo was off when the ignition was on, tried to switch it on and got nothing, i then decided to see if the cig lighter would work and it also doesn't work. I immediately thought I'd blown the back up fuse but its fine, i checked every other fuse and they're all ok! I got my multi-meter and tried for power in the OE stereo plug and was only getting power from the illumination pin (with lights on) and from the constant 12v feed but nothing from the ignition power. Does anyone have any idea what the hell i have done, are there any other fuses that i can check or does anyone have any suggestions.....BTW everything else works, clock/rear fogger/lights etc and the car starts fine, its really baffling me!!

what the nerd is trying to say is... if you send power to a ground, its going to be grounded, opposed to being able for use. (and you will blow a fuse.)
check the fuse for the lighter.

I disconnected everything once i discovered the stereo stopped working, hooked the cig lighter back up the way it should be and checked all the fuses with no luck. At the back of the lighter there are only 3 wires, 1 Ignition 12v supply, 1 earth/ground and 1 illumination, i cant see how i could have grounded anything unless the two black wires which are on a spade connector are not actually ground wires and the white/green wire is a ground... from searching on this it seems the cig lighter has 2 fuses, one under the hood in the fuse bank, one under the dash and also a relay under the dash also...if so how do i check a relay and which one?

I think what you meant is maximum current will be drawn, causing the fuse, if any, to blow.

check fuse under dashboard. that relay going to the cigarette lighter is simple in the sense that it gets spliced off the main dash relay, and then gets fused.

it was the 15 amp fuse under the dash, replaced it and stereo and lighter now work again, but my elec antenna doesnt :-( and the open trunk light on the dash is dimly lit ALL the time and lights up proper when i pop the trunk, i have rechecked every fuse and theyre all ok so i dont know where the problem lies now...its pissing me off bigtime!!!
can I ask you a stupid question? Oh well I will anyway...
do the side mirrors still work? I did something similar and fixed everything but the circuit board in the mirror switch keeps blowing (not the fuse)

if are not good with the electronics, may i suggest you bring it to the dealership? im sure they will fix the problem for you, after perhaps a lot of time and money spent.

If it is dimly lit then you might have cross shorted or altered its ground.
