Default Wheel Cylinder shot... how hard to change?

Liek the topic says, my right rear wheel cyclidner is shot. It's leaking brake fluid like mad... how hard is it to change (i never mess with the drums... until I have to, like now) and how much aer the parts to do it? I know I'll need to bleed 'em ans stuff and probably change the brake shoes (hope its not hard)

I'm thinking "if I was able to swap a B16 in, this should be cake..."

So?

are you talking about the small piston that pushs the pads against the drum? if so, you can just replace that peice. i just replaced one on my fathers truck for 10 bucks. i am sure it will be a few dollars more because it is a honda!! hope this helps.

ok dude, it's not too bad. the new part is only like $9. you gotta take your drum cover off, take the shoes off, then there are two small bolts holding the wheel cylinder to the drum...take those off, you gotta disconnect the brake fluid line as well. when i did mine i had to take the line apart farther up (where it connects with the brake hose, you'll see what i mean) because the nut right at the W.C. wouldnt get loose. had to put the W.C. in a vice and use vice grips to get the line off.

bolt the new one in, put the shoes back on, bleed the system and you're good to go.

did any of the brake fluid get onto the shoes, if it did your gonna have to redo your rear brakes, if it didn't the just replace the wheel cyl. you don't need to take off the shoes at all, just take the off the top spring that goes across from the primary and secondary shoe to loosen the tension from wc

I had to change mine on my rex and it was a bitch. The car had over 135K at the time and needless to say everything what rusted and fused. You have to be careful taking iff the brake line from the cylinder, you can shear it totally off if it's fused to the nut. I loath drum brakes.
