Bad experience with Oakland Acura - went in for a valve adjustment
Hey folks,
Just wondering if any of you had any experiences with Oakland Acura here in California. I've always picked up parts from the parts department and they've been great, but I cannot say the same for the service department. I remember taking my car in for the complimentary inspection they had several months ago. When I handed the keys to the service manager, he threw my entire set of keys on the roof of my black type R. Luckily there waren't any scratches. I didn't think much of it. Later I had him check out my dome light switch, since you have to wiggle it for it to turn on, and he tells me it's not covered under Acura warranty. He said anything in the interior is not covered? Do you folks know if thats true?
So that wasn't too bad, I thought maybe it was an isolated incident... This morning I take my car in for a valve adjustment and complimentary oil change... He quotes me $250 on the spot for the valve adjustment. I ask him, isn't that a little too much for a valve adjustment? He tells me it's because it comes with a gasket. I call Pleasanton Acura, and they quote me $149.95 (including gasket). I then call Concord Acura, and they quote me $120. I tell the Oakland Acura service manager these quotes from other local Acura dealerships and he tells me that the other dealerships will end up charging me more later and to just pick up my car. I tell him that there is no way valve adjustments cost so much, that independent shops will do it for about $80 and then asked if he will honor the other Acura dealership prices (since my car is there already). He says theres no way he would do it for that much and to pick up my car. So I tell him just to do my complimentary oil change then. Is it just me, or this guy is trying to swindle me? I've checked other threads (https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=337001) and valve adjustments for for about $100 at dealerships, and at most $150. What kind of crack is this guy smoking?! Is there anything I can do about this besides go to another dealership?
Sorry for the ranting folks, but I expected MUCH MUCH better service from an Acura dealership.

That's a rip off. I wouldn't take it to them after being treated that way.
First of all, he doesn't sound very helpfull the way you are describing him. The dome light SHOULD be covered under warranty and if he won't work on it, take it to another dealer that will.
The cost of the valve adjustment also is pretty rediculous. I would just take it to another dealer. This one just sounds like a dick.

Same here. I had my Acura dealership do it for $80.
Now i have a valve adjustment tool and do it for free. It's easy (if you have the right tool) just takes a little patience.

WTF - Expecting more from a Stealership??! Wow... Dealership service guys don't know dick about cars man...
My local dealership did a 30k mile tune up... needless to say - they forgot to fill up my radiator, and forgot the radiator cap... Luckily I checked to see if fluid levels were good... They still drove the car from the shop to the parking lot without coolant... No tallent *** clowns...
They also said that they replaced the timing belt... When I got home, I was going to do a valve adjustment, so I took off the valve cover... Whats this? An old timing belt... After cursing the **** out of them, they STILL ended up charging us for the tune up...We(my father and I)were ganna sue, but it would have costed more then 450 bucks for a lawyer - not worth it...

doesn't acura have some kind of customer service number to report these indecent activities going on..?? ghey *** dealerships.. the only one i trust here in il. is the Old Lisle one, they have great service. I even picked up a part for 150 less than any other dealerships in the chicagoland area. Worth the 45 min drive just for good service and good prices.
I would find out who that guys superior is and file a complaint with him and with Acura.
That being said I think Acura service sucks and if I was choosing between two comparable cars, one being an Acura and the other being anything else, I would go with the other car simply because of my experiences.

I would write a letter to Honda headquarter of North America <you should have the info on your booklets>. Whenver I have a disagreement with a dealer, I just write a letter or simply a phone call and the dealer will bend over afterwards, no need to argue with them GED fucktards.
