Hawk HP Plus pads; Good place to buy?
Okay, so I've decided to try some Hawk HP Plus pads but I need to find a place with some decent prices.
Can anyone recommend a place? I am looking for the front and rear pads for a 01 Type-R.
Thanks!

Carbotech Engineering sells Hawk Products, but frankly, you'll get a better price from Tirerack on the HPS and HP+...so I'd go there. We can sell you Hawk full-race compounds, however, which Tirerack does not carry, AFAIK.

Can someone please tell me the difference between the HPS and the HP+. I tried the Blues, but I what to try something less severe.
Thanks
Thanks
HPS is a more ***** compound that dusts less and whatnot,, is made for a street only, mostly. HP+ is more agressive and dusts more, stops better, and is what you need!
"A more ***** pad"?
I'll check to see if that qualifies as a technically accurate statement in brake lingo...stay tuned. <grin>
On the HPS vs HP+: The HPS is just for high performance street use, and it is a good pad for the street - don't take it racing or really pound on them, because they are not rated high enough (heat range) to take it. It also works well for drag racing. The HP+ is a good aggressive street, auto-x, and light track pad...tends to be dusty and squeally, but other than that, a decent compound. Full race compounds include the entire PFC line of products, minus the Carbon-Metallic Z, the Hawk Blue and Black (HT10 and HT12 really suited for full-out GT or formula racing), and our Panther XP/Platinum, Panther Plus, and Panther. The Panther Plus is the only true race compound which is actually streetable, AFAIK - rotor friendly, moderate dust level, very good cold stopping power.

Well, Andie from Carbotech you are damned honest!
You recognize that this board is happy to have people who are interested in competition and it is not the place to plug your products. You are too much of a gentleman to plug your own company here, so I will for you
I have purchased from Carbotech several times in the past 3 years. I always have been impressed with their knowledge and the quality of their prroducts. They have supported SOLO II through a contingency program and that has earned my loyalty. I highly recommend that you buy from them. Even if its a few dollars more you are paying for their experience and recommendations. A few bucks is worth my piece of mind.
On the flip side though, Tire Rack has done a lot for the sport and they should be supported as well. So if you know exactly what you want then buying brakes from Tire Rack may be the way to go. They are courteous and prompt. But their sales reps do not have the expertise that the Carbotech guys do.
I always make it a point to support the folks that support my sport. I buy from Carbotech, Tire Rack, MidAtlantic Motorsports (Hoosier Tom), ShockTek. I avoid Discount Tire and other places that carry the same parts but don't give me the service and support that grass roots motorsports needs.
Regards,
Alan

What pads should I use in the back if I run the Panther Plus in the front? I called Carbotech, but Larry had left for the day, so I will have to call Monday.
This is a common setup and is what Andie recommended for me. I am running the P+ as a track pad only on my Si. They are incredible pads, but bite too hard for autoX and the street IMO. All of Andies advice is dead on and honest, the only thing is he says the P+ have moderate dust levels which I think is highly underated,, these things DUST! At least its non corrosive dust, though.
I ended up ordering some HP Plus pads from Import Specialists. Got some SS brake lines also. Hopefully they can hook me up soon enough so I can do a track event comming up.
Andie,
Do you have any distributors in Canada? specifically in Toronto, Ontario? I'd like to try a front set of Panther Plus pads for my ITR.

Edwin,
You can call us directly at 877-899-5024 - we do not have a distributor in Canada, unfortunately, and primarily sell direct to our customers.

Andie
p.s. Re: moderate dust levels...I feel a lot has to do with the style of wheels and the actual brake setup. On my NSX, the dust is moderate, on others it is heavier, and on some cars, it's pretty darn light. I have found that the initial dusting during the bedding in period is quite heavy, but after that, it lightens up quite a bit. Also, one's perception of dusting levels is very subjective. I consider the OEM BMW pads (Textar) to be the dustiest pads this side of the GMT...if this is considered a 10 (dustiest), I'd put the Panther Plus at a 6.
