Hardwiring Radar Dectector when it is mounted by rearview mirror?
I want to know whats the best place to hardwire my radar detector when it is mounted below the rearview mirror? I was thinking about wiring it to the clock but i dont know if i can do that. Also, i want to add a switch in the spaces right by the E-Brake. This i can do but i just wanted to add that so you'll would have an idea of what i am trying to do.

They have a wiring kit I can buy for like 10 bucks. I am going to get that. It goes threw the fuse box. Here's the link http://www.whistlergroup.com/o...t.asp

horrible thing to do. Poor connection, and screws up the fuse box connection if you ever want to remove that extention. Just cut off the cigarette lighter end, extend the wires, and splice in with the wires behing your radio.

Yeah, that's a poor connection. I tapped the cigaret light / power adapter wire for my hard wire. I'm running an 8500 with the hardwire kit. I used the cig, because that's were it normaly plugs into, so it can handle the load; and since that wire is run through the factory wire looms, I was able to make a nice connection and zip tie the wire securely throught it's length at the factory locations.

Yeah, check it out, about 1/2 way down the page: "Direct Wire SmartCord"
I have the mute/led smart cord piece mounted to the top of my steering column. That way, I can run the unit in full dark mode (at night), and still see the alarm led even if I mute it. It's awesome, nobody on the road will know your running a detector.
*EDIT* Sorry - forgot the link....
