Default h22 to h23 tensioner question

I noticed in my helms manuel that there is a a bracket that is shown behind the tensioner pulley and a blot going through the hook on the left side of the tensioner to hold it in place.

I was wondering if it is even a nesessity because it isnt shown in the how to by 2point6.

If it is not then I am not going to worry about it. It seams that it has a mojor role in the tensioner process but it isnt shown in 2point6's how to so I am curious.

It locks the timing belt tension for when you loosen the adjustment bolt again to tension the balance shaft belt. You remove the bolt that goes through the bracket before you put the timing covers back on.

To put it simply, its not necessary, but can simplify things.

Which bolt is it you're talking about?

I remember there were one or two bolts I removed b/c they weren't necessary anymore when I did my conversion.

It's just one of the bolts for the timing belt cover. Like 4bidden said, you use it temporarily to hold tension on the timing belt while you adjust tension on the balancer belt. The Helms outlines the process.

Yeah, this makes no sense . . . the oil pump has nothing to do with it.
