Default vtec swap

I was thinking about swapping out my d15b7 engine for a vtec. It would be cheaper and easier to swap it for a smaller vtec but if im going to spend that much $$ i want to know if it would be better to spend more and get an h22. I've also had people recommend that I just get a turbo kit instead. I just want to get some input from you guys.

If price is an issue, build a turbo Mini-me. I'm building one right now and won't have but around $600 in the whole thing, including a new tranny and clutch.
