OT: Any ASE Certified Technicians on here?
I'm sorry for posting this in here but I thought I might get a better chance of replies.
I'm thinking about a career in the Automotive world and it seems that ASE is the most highly recognized "Seal of Approval." Just like A+ and Network+ for computers.
What are the steps that is needed to get this certification?
I just went to http://www.asecert.org, but would like a more detailed info.
Do you need to attend a class and then take a test?
After you take the test and become ASE Certified, do you have to take annual tests to keep the certification?
Thank You for the help and I apologize once more for posting this here.

hhmmmm.......let's see.
ASE certified master technician
L1 cert.
Smog license
Toyota Master Diagnostic Tech
Anyway, anyone can take the tests but to be certified i think you need to show proof of experience. maybe 2 years. 8 areas of testing plus L1.
They are good for five years. Smog license only good for 2 years.
I like what i do but if i had to do it all over again i would have picked computers.
Seems like they make a ton of money and best of all stay clean.

vago, i think my plan is yours but backwards, i wanna be a mechanic, but im pursuing a computer based field. hopefully everything works out, or else im gonna be pissed!
Vago is right. You will need those 2 years of experience. If you are good ost dealerships like Honda, can pay for your ASE Certification, they also pay for Honda-Acura school cert. That's how I got mine. You do get dirty, and it does get boring. Maintenance after maintenance after maintenance, that's why I quit...
its just they don't take too kindly to me working on my "glorified lawnmower" at work. Shop foreman is anti-import yet works for toyota...********!
I need to find a job where i can make a crap load of money and build a nice shop in my garage for weekends. no smartass remarks please..i know you guys.

Perhaps I should go to college and get a Business Administration Major and work in a shop in the meantime while trying to get that 2 years experience and ASE Certified. Then open up a shop of my own when I get out of college.
I wouldn't mind working on fellow Honda-Tech members cars'.
