i am new to hondas. i have owned toyotas and subies for the last 8 years. i have built my own engines and built some pretty stout 22r's and worked as an amatuer mechanic for my friends. i just bought my honda first honda today. its a 91 hatch with i believe a sohc. it does not have power anything. it has the front end crunched on the drivers side. i cant get the hood open yet. 138k miles. the girl i bought it from had the clutch replaced and about 700 dollars in trans (4 speed) work done. it runs like a champ!! i love the way it drives, sort of like my old ae86 gts. i drove it about 20 miles from home, came out of the store and it just cranked. the check engine light came on after it had been cranking for about 1 second. i called the girl and said WTF? she said that it had done that to her in the past. she said wait a few monutes and it should work. well, it did. i drove it home and parked it. and decided to ask you honda gurus out there what it might be. i am a regular j-yard dog. i have several wrecked hondas of the same vintage to get parts from. what should i replace? it wont cost me jack squat! thanks in advance for all of the help. james.

 

turn the key on.. pull the carpet back on the passager side and you'll see a blinking LED, count the number of times it blinks and post up with that information..

 

i am having the same problem only mine does it when i revmy car to long then turn it off. (driving really fast) the i try to restart and nothing. by the wayi am new to the forum and i have a 88 civic hatch

 

i checke dfor the whole led light couldn't find it also i havwe on other question. i recked my civic and iam in the process of fixing... basically new hood radiator and a/c cndensor my question for you is i hear you don;t need the a/c condeser is that true. if so do i nee do do anything if i don't put a new one in

 

haha....i have a 91 hatch also and it does the same thing....its the d1.5 and it will only do it if i haul *** everywhere and then shut it off....then i pop the hood and tap on the fuel lines....i think it is a vapor lock issues....good post

 

its the main relay, its over top of the hood release...


do this , when the car doesnt start turn the key to on and listen for a clunking noise in the dash..if you dont hear it (there are two different clicks, you want the louder one) if you dont hear it turn the key off and on until you do, then it will start.
