Tips on Tuning a '98 Accord
I recently got my first car. A 98 Accord 4-cycle Auto. I know its not a V-6 5 speed, but I want to do what I can with it. I started changing some exterior features (rear lights, head lights) but have no clue if it's even worth trying to upgrade the engine for performance. Being 17 you have a limited budget but what can be done with my car? cold air? exhaust? any information or know-how would be appreciated
first off......the v6's manuals are 03+ and are 6 spds...
dont change the headlights or tail lights
get ur hands on a haynes/helms/chiltons manual (autozone, etc...)
read the basic guide to accords.....
since ur in HS, take auto-tech.......

hey i have the same car as you. I'm putting DC headers a hi-flow cat, and a tanube cat back exhaust on at the end of this month. I've already changed the intake, upgraded my plugs n wires, and got new wheels for the car. I want to change the pulleys next month, then i want to get an aluminum flywheel this summer. After that I plan to change the suspension. I don't plan on lowering it more than an inch or an inch and a half, but i plan on doing it the right way by goin the whole 9 yrds. I'd like to be able to find a performance rebuild kit for my tranny if there's one out there, and i'd like to add h22 axles cuz i think they're a little stronger and can manage more horsepower. In a yr or 2 if i get bored perhaps i'll consider a hybrid swap of sorts...
the way i have designed to set my car up will be much more stronger while also being more fuel efficient than stock. the f23a1 sohc vtec engine is a good engine for mods, but don't expect the same performance as some of hona's other DOHC vtec engines. I think the F23 is a unique engine and i enjoy givin the throttle a push everyday.

first off..... dont listen to fw190bvi, do whatever you want to do to it. If you wanna change the headlights or tail lights, do it. Just make sure to check with your local laws before you attempt anything.
i've got the same thing on my 02 accord - auto 4 banger. The only mods I made for performance were an intake and exhaust, now I'm saving up for a turbo. I dunno if a turbo is in your budget or not, but if you think you can afford $1500 then you might want to research FI a little more and see if that's a possibility for you

when you say you bought intake. does a different CAI kit need to be bought for an automatic? some companies market the system as "automatic" version. The ones i've seen have only been for V-6 models though.
Intake, 2.5 in Apexi WS 2 exhaust (big enough for turbo), have 350 bucks now saved up for a turbo.
If youre getting more and more serious about going faster, every little bit will help. If you dont feel like gutting out your car, and you feel like you wont run a flat, take out your spare tire and all the tools, itll save you a small amount. If youre racing, have your car low on gas, drain your washer fluid, etc. An Accord's heavy, but you can at least take a small bite out of it.
I agree, a turbo's the way to go. I don't trust nitrous, either it'll hurt my engine or i'll misuse it and it'll hurt my engine sooner. The only nitrous i could use would be to run through the intercooler
