junk title?
hey, dumb question (maybe)...
if my car has a "junk title" on it, but a very reputible shop replaced EVERYTHING on it, how much do you think that would detract from the selling value (if at all). i bought my car from the owner of a local shop (VSV Performance) and the car had been in a minor accident where the front was just damaged some (nothing under the hood was damaged at all). the parts were all replaced and painted to match, so the car looks (and drives) like new. i have been driving it for a year or so now, and i am probably going to be trading it. will people be really turned off by the junk title or will they not, since all parts were replaced with OEM parts. thanks, and sorry if this question doesn't belong here

I'm with that... most people won't have time to listen to "stories" about how the car is just like new. It was given a junk title for a reason, I woudn't buy one unless its super cheap.

im not selling it, i am trading. but anyways, thanks for the replies. there truly was no damage other than exterior stuff to the front bumper and stuff, but o well.

Interesting point. Some states will actually allow you to take a car that has previously received an "other" title and have it inspected to see if it qualifies to re-receive a clear title.

great advise
you will lose a very good portion of the value of the car if u sell it with the junk title. Look into getting it erased.

well, the guy that i am potentially trading with lives in the same state as me (TX). and no, i am not trying to be shady, cuz i have already told him about what happened and what was done to fix it. he has also seen the car himself (we met up) and he couldn't even tell. i'm not trying to pull the wool over someone's eyes, i was just wondering. that is an interesting point tho about clearing a title. if any title deserved to be cleared after an inspection, it would be mine
It's really up to your buyer, and how much he's willing to pay. Obviously, you can't ask the same amount as a clear titled car, but if the repair work is as good as you say, you can come damn close.
I just sold a "r title". It really did depreciate the value because the buyers couldnt get loans for it. Banks rarely loan out for a junk title. i also highly recommend not trading it into a dealership if it is r title. You will get even less for it then. MY friend just traded in an r title 2000 civic si with 40k on it and only got 3500 trade in value even though it is in perfect condition. Just watch out.

from what I hear (a guy trying to sell me a salvage title Teg), you cannot finance the car because banks just won't deal with it. You have to pay cash.

i bought my car with a slavage title on it (junk title) that had been fully restored by professionals so that the car was better than new. the bank gave me a loan with no questions asked. i don't know what you guys are talking about...

it's easy to total out an integra through..there was another thread on this... if your seats and wheels are stolen..the dealership wants $$$$ to replace them....insurance co might just total it. It really just depends on WHY it recieved a salvage title.

I was just retelling what the seller told me. Maybe its some more California stuff? But are you financing the car through a bank? Or you just took out a personal loan to buy a car? Its not the same.

see, i think that is total bullshit. how can a car receive a salvage title for something like that?? the car has not been damaged in any way and the parts can be replaced with the exact thing that they had before...after all is said and done, the car will be worth more than it was before, when it had a clean title...since the seats and wheels are new, they would be worth more, yet the car has a lower value because of a stamp on a piece of paper?! this really annoys the hell out of me. stupid f'ing laws about this are ****. i mean wtf...my car is in almost pristene condition, but now i think that a dealer is gonna give me crap for it. o well, i guess i should still go see what they will value my car at anyways just to see...maybe they will see things as i do
