Default Tranny Question

Has anyone ever converted an auto tranny to a manual? I bought my integra even before i started driving, and before i could have given a **** about cars and whatnot..but now that i'm really into my teg, i wish it was a standard...

has anyone done this? how much? just any info would be nice

You're talking about replacing the gears and what not in the tranny
itself? If not, you can do a auto to manual swap. That would run you
anywhere from $1500-3500 depending on where you get the parts and
whether you're paying for labor.

i asked this same question a couple months ago, so i will tell you what i was told by several members:

the swap certainly IS possible, but not recommended. most people said i should just sell the teg and get one with a manual transmission. they said that it would be much more reliable and you would know that nothing would really go wrong (where as if you did it yourself, something might go wrong). yea, i know, it sucks having an auto, believe me. but the cost of putting in a manual transmission is rediculous and you would just be better off getting a new teg. i know it hurts to think about parting with your current one, but unless you have a huge wallet, then that would be the best option. but that is just my .02

About the only time when it's really cost effective to do a tranny conversion is if you buy a shell that formerly housed an automatic. On the last engine swap I did, we had to convert from auto to manual, there will be several issues that you have to address:

First off, you will need the pedal assembly from a manual car, and you will need to run the hard lines and get a clutch fluid reservoir/master cylinder, etc. You will also need a clutch, flywheel, and or course the tranny. This should be the most straightforward part of the swap. Then you'll need an ECU from a manual transmission vehicle. At this point it becomes difficult. The tranny mount for the auto will not line up with the manual tranny so you have a few options. One is to fabricate your own mounting bracket that will place the mount in the proper location, two is to buy one from someone who does, three is to remove the original mounting point, reshape it, and weld it in the proper location. The shift linkage will require two holes to be drilled so that it can be mounted, and I know there is something else, but I can't remember.

plus you will need a manual starter and half shaft, place racing makes the mount you will need i think its around 200
