Default would you buy a reconditioned motor?

there is a shop in the bay area that sells reconditioned b18bs for a pretty decent price. i was thinking about purchasing one. anyone with horror stories or positive feedback with reconditioned motors? they warranty it for 6000 miles with at least 170-180 compression readings.

well, define "reconditioned".

reconditioned would be the same as rebuilding. And people rebuild motors all the time. So, in that essence, it would be a matter of how well the place can build a motor.

what kind of price are they ? Are they long blocks ? Or is it a full engine ? (manifolds and all sensors)

you can get b18b longblocks for $650 at a few shops. either jdm or reconditioned. i would get feedback from people who have done business with those particular shops before buying any motors from them.

Well, with a warranty for 6k miles...what have you got to lose ? and for $650...that's a pretty cheap price.

Why don't you go there and ask them exactly what they mean by reconditioned. Because, by definition, that would mean, rebuilt. And if it is rebuilt, find out if it is OE Honda parts, or aftermarket.

You need to get more detailed specs about these guys before you make a decision.

If the motor is rebuilt (with OEM or aftermarket parts), and warranted for 6k miles for $650, that's almost an unbeatable deal!

If you think it is not, call Japser Engines and find out how much it will cost for a rebuilt motor from them. They sell the long blocks, no manifolds or sensors, or alternator. The price is over $3k!

i asked what they did to the motor and they said they reconditioned the motor by replacing whatever needed to be replaced. so the motor is used... and in working condition in my opinion. not rebuilt. $3k for a rebuilt motor would make sense if it was blueprinted, rebuilt with NEW parts, and all that.
