b20 gsr vtec swap questions/problems
i am haveing a problem with vtec on a b20 swap i did. the vtec is not kicking in. i have checked everything. i am getting oil pressure and just to give you guys a idea of the extreme's that i have gone to i even changed out the main bearings. trust me when i say i have checked everything. the head was machined and that is what i think it might be, is the machinest messed up. but the question i had is i toke the car to a honda dealer and the machanic that looked at it fixes up honda's and has even done a b20 vtec. he drove it and said that it is kicking you just can't hear it. reason is be cause the b20 compression is low. 8.8.
so has anyone done just a stock b20b with a gsr and not been able to "hear " the vtec. this doesn't sound possible to me.
i would like to hear peoples input from guys that have done this same swap before. not guys that have read about it or ones that think they know. not trying to be rude just want to hear some i'm postive feed back

i did a b20z2 b16a swap and i hear the vtec open just fine; although i have the bottom end done.
what ecu are you running? but even if the bottom end is stock, you would still hear it open, or at least feel it. even if your car was really untuned you would still hear it hit, or at least feel it alittle.
do you have a vafc or any type of vtec controller?

compression on the b20Z higher than the b20b. he said cause the compression is low you can't hear the vtec kick in. the swap is in a 98 gsr and it is all the same just the block was changed out. and i put a oil catch can on it. that only runs to the valve cover. with a filter on the other outlet of the can.
b20Z compression is like 9.6 or 9.4 can't remmeber and the b20b is 8.8. with the gsr head it brings the b20b to 9.2. it is all motor
