Adjustable Stabilizer Endlinks / Custom Endlinks
Got a question for you roadracers/autox guys out there....
If i were to make my own custom adjustable endlinks with a male and female rod end, and not use ANY rubber/poly bushings, would that not give enough movement in the endlink assembly?
I've seen the stock 99-00 Civic SI endlinks, and they are very flexible ( from the rubber bushings ), if I were to use rod ends and have no bushings, would that put extra stress on the control arm and subframe?
Thanks

Geratol, I was thinking of using a male and a female rod end to make and endlink that looks very similar to that.
Is that spacer made of steel? Do they make any noise? Is this for a track only car?

The spacer is steel.
I don't know if the joints make noise because smany other things on the car make noise that even if they did make noise I wouldn't be able to pick it out.
The car is a Daily Driver/Autocross car.
I can't picture how you would set something up with male/female rod ends because the link needs bushings or spherical bearings to keep from binding.

HMmm... I always thought rod ends were hiem joints and vice versa? I could be wrong, but when I was browsing through my buddy's bearing catalog, they called those things rod ends. Can someone confirm this?

people use heim joints for rod ends on race cars, but production cars basically use ball joints, which would bind pretty easily on the endlinks.

the endlink pictured is the one that comes with comptech's rear sway/tie. i have read threads of failure on cars that are daily driven, but i don't think there's a better alternative without spending significantly more money. mine don't squeak, with probably 15,000 daily driven miles and three track events.
Thanks for the link XrcR6
Sorry for all the confusion.
on me for not knowing rod end=heim joint.

My route to work is quite bumpy in some areas, so I am a little worried about stress failures on the control arms/subframe.
Would substituting that steel spacer with some sway bushings help? When you look at the comptech setup, it looks like there is NO play at all on the endlinks.
Another side question, are the endlinks supposed to be perpendicular to the ground? like this _|_ and not _/_ or _\_?

buy the comptech kit, or h-t member civicferio's new ek/ej/em subframe brace with your choice of endlinks & bar, and you'll be fine.
BACK FROM THE DEAD! LOL, i just got some heim joints that look exactly like the pic, but mine have no spacers. is there a place i can find some spacers that go to a point like those do? i would washers but the joint would hit them and limit the movement.
any ideas? i need then for the uper and lower heim joints

Where did you buy the heim joints at?

the guy at http://www.function-7.com/ sold them to me for 35$ shipped. but they didnt come with the locking nuts to lock the 2 peices tight, and also 1 of them in left hand threaded. i had to order the nut over the net and its gona be about a week unlil it gets here.
im also wondering about the joint area. i want some spacers that go to a point so the joint will get full movement.
anyone help?
Wow, my thread came back !
Actually, I was close to ordering a set of male/female heim joints for my endlinks, but I realized that I won't be able to adjust the length while the endlinks are on the car with your setup.
I am planning to get two male heim joints, and a threaded hex rod so I will be able to adjust the endlinks while they are mounted on the car.
I'll get that stuff going and pics once I get my 22mm swaybar in.
Some race shops sell spacers for rod ends/heims, I found some at http://www.bicknellracingproducts.com. Just go to catalog, and look for rod end spacers. I think they have two pages in their catalog devoted to rod end spacers.

You should not need to adjust the length of the endlinks beyond the initial installation (unless, of course, the sway bar bends sometime after the initial install).
The endlink lengths are set so that no preload is applied to the sway bar when the car is on a flat surface. Once this is done correctly, you should not need to adjust the length again after that.
Also, spacer bushings are not required in most sway bar applications. The limited arc of movement of the typical sway bar does not require the additonal travel afforded by the spacer bushings.

Comptech sells endlinks like this also.... $20/each from Alex
