Default WTH? Phoenix Yellow paint hard to mix???

I just got a call from my body shop (who does VERY VERY good work and specializes in Honda and Acuras) and they told me what the hold up on my car was.

They said the paint code for PY doesnt give them a chart of what to mix...its like
a hit or miss game...they have to mix it until it looks about right?...this is my version of how he explained it cause I was not believing what I was hearing and
becoming a bit delusional. He said there are only a few other cars with colors like this that doesnt give them a chart to go by to mix the paint.

ARGH! I hope it comes out right..I know body shops have painted PY on other cars all around the U.S. so im sure they will get it right and mine will be fine...but Im just a tad worried I will notice I difference in color and nver be satisfied with it.

It probably depends on the paint brand and there mixing computer. The shop I work at uses Sikkens and my paint code was in the mixing computer. One thing that was weird was that my painter told me that my factory paint was single stage.

I got rear-ended in my PY R a while back and had the hatch as well as the bumper and the strip above the bumper painted 10 times, it still doesn't match. This was at a decent shop, they just couldn't do it. I finally got them to pay me $1000 to go somewhere else, but I just ended up spending the cash instead of going through the hassle again. I figure I'll just wait till I get rear-ended again, because my brakes kick so much *** it will happen again some day..

Thats really strange because I had my car re-painted all but the roof, rear hatch and rear bumper and everything matches perfectly.

my car didnt match either when it came out of the body shop for some front end work.... they ended up having to repaint the entire car.... which actually wasnt so bad. car looks pretty nice IMO.

DO NOT SETTLE FOR MISMATCHING PAINT

my car does look a little funny when sitting amongst other pY ITRS its not bad.. just a little different

my car is about 3 different colors.

1. front lip scratched, okay match
2. someone ran into my rear bumper, that had to be repaintd twice, 2nd time by an acura certified body shop, still can see a very light difference, better than the front lip.
3. got hit with a run-away shopping cart, had the whole rear quarter panel and the piece runing along the headliner of the car all the way down to the front mirror repainted. looks decent, but you can still see the difference when comparing to the trunk.

all this and not to mention various dents i have had to get pulled, which makes for a very WAVY looking paint job.

all in all, i think py is a fabolous color, but its a BITCH to match.

Will painting a fiberglass piece and a stock piece with the same paint yield different results?

The fiberglass piece will have to have a flex agent, and therefore, the paint will not match exactly. If you look at any stock integra, the bumper is usually a slightly different colour than the rest of the car! And btw, this is most aparent on the PY ITR.

Funny, my Rear OEM Lips matchs the Body paint but not the Bumper...
so it's like a zebra (if you look closer)..
but I don't care.. what I care is that B18C5 inside....

wow thats tiger stripes im a painter my self if you have stripes like that...That means the painter that painted your stuff was painting to close to the object and wasnt moving at a normal rate of speed while passing 50/50 over lap. It all depends on your fan patter and your air pressure of the gun also very critical... Depends what everyone is painting also all i use is PPG and Du-pont both work great for me and never had a problem with color matching PY

Yellow is probably the hardest color to paint match on a car. You can try to blend it to make it less noticeable, but it'll probably never be perfect. Especially if you have the OEM paint.

lol now a days you have to blend except for the bumpers but i find all flat colors to be easier color matching instead of metallic dark or gray, if you know what im talking about u would understand lets just say silver is the hardest one

here's a tip for my fellow HT members next time you buy a car either from dealer or private just to make sure they dont dick u around, Check all the the head lights and make sure its oem, all the windows and critcally check all the vin's make sure theyre still there if not means it been replaced or paited over you would see a rectangle sticker shape been painted over if it did get painted. Critically check the mil thickness of the paint they should have this gadget ur local autobody place. All i know is oem mill thickness of paint is 0.8 but if it goes over been repainted or there is body filler under, check for little dust thats visible on the paint it would look like a tiny pimple sticking out. Acura of seattle an RSX i was going to buy told me lie's and when i pin-pointed it out i asked for the manager and dropped the price on me dramatically, so it can help out in the long run

In your situation, i know you love your R cause i have one also and i dont let no one touch the body/paint myself, where-ever u go ask for the painter and just tell him i know u have a hard job but can you atleast make my car match right and look properly. If u can respect the painter then i wouldnt think he would bullshit ur car u know because its a type r. Most painters gets alot of stress in the body shop area, Trust me i know, i bitch at the body men if i find sum n wrong or the preppers if sum n is not prepped or mask properly.
