Crx vs. Miata Slalom and Skidpad calcs.
Hey guys, im in an argument with a couple of brain deads. What are the specifications on the 1st gen miatas vs. 2nd gen 88-91 Crxs??
im mostly looks for handling specs. i always though tthe crx was superior, stock vs. stock

the miata is pretty tought to beat i dont know what the numbers are but ive driven a few first gen miatas and there really good handling wise... power is... BUHAHAHA

Sad to say, the Miata. Slow/ugly yet small, light and RWD, they were designed for outright handling.
I read an article many years ago. When the Miata was being designed, they had 3 inspirations for the handling. I don't recall what the other two were, but one of them was the CRX. I think they surpassed their target.
Locally Miata clean up on the autox course. Not that there aren't competitive CRXs.
All things being equal and both cars similarly prepped, the Miata would take it 75% of the time.

How can you guys talk about the Miata being slow when most crx's are slower than base miatas? And it's *known* from the Miata mx-5 forum and thier owners that miata's have really shitty 0-60s because it's first gear is way too short and it's launching is crappy, but once you get into 2nd and 3rd gear it starts to take off.
And it's looks are subjective. It's design is a hell of a lot less controversial than the CRX 's design so I dont think you guys have much room to talk **** about other cars. Try to be more positive about cars other than Hondas and such. Miata's can be bad *** cars and you guys know it so dont try to talk down to them. CRX's can be the same, but miata's are still RWD and we all know how fun rwd is in a small agile car with a small wheelbase and almost perfect balance...

Make excuses if you want but the 1990 116 hp engine was a dog. That's nearly universally agreed upon except for a few miataphiles still skulking around. The handling, top down fun, reliability etc compensated enough for the power issues to be overlooked at the time. The later 1.8 helped but it still never got a reputation at the stoplight grand prix.
And nobody likes a necroposter.

If it can only move in 2nd and 3rd gear then its not well thought out.
If it handles/brakes etc better then a stock crx then thats fine, but theres more to any road then just turns, and no one leaves either car in question in stock trim, so the argument is pointless.
miatas have much more in common with del sols anyway, and the competition there may have lead to the "redesign" of the crx into the del sol which makes me hate miatas even more.

i read it a long time ago in a magazine. i member it sayying, " the mazda miata put the crx at a run for its money, producings a better handling car then the honda crx." thats ok tho. i'll take one in my gsr crx anyday
unless i run into a 302 miata

Go autocrossing. Miata's make a killing out there. 5th gen Corvette's are great handlers out of the box, but with slight modding, they are killers, but still no match to a Miata....especially if the Miata has wide tires and suspension work. I'd have to have something like 20" wide tires and sawzall the roof off to have a chance on a tight course. On bigger courses I can use my horsepower to make up the difference in cornering, but on tight courses I don't have a chance.

Yeah I know it's Honda-tech....All I am saying is there seems to be a lot of disrespect between car manufacturers and it really bugs the **** out of me. It's like racism, but with cars. Well you can say that you just hate miatas but like other cars, I understand...that's cool...but it *seemed* like people are just hating on it because it's a small car that women like to buy and drive because they are cute....Well that's how it was with a lot of hondas, civics, preludes, integras...All these cars had more women buying them than guys...So sure the miata is a womans kinda car, but you cant deny it's performance ability. So it had a 116hp 1.6L engine in 1990...How much did the CRX have in 1990? I agree though, the CRX would smoke a miata at a stop light because mazda messed up first gear.
So you dont like ANY miatas? I know there are some modified ones out there that are SEXY as hell...You dont like any of them? Maybe they are just too round for your tastes...but the miata's styling is beyond the scope of this thread to begin with.

I am NOT lol....I aint argueing simply for the sake of it, I really do believe that miatas are sweet cars, but I also think they are a bit soft in the styling department and some body mods would help it out. I can see how CRX lovers hate the miatas, they are both small cheap cars known for their handling, they both usually have 1.6Ls in them and manual trannies, they weigh the same...But the CRX is sharp in styling and the miata is the exact opposite, so there can easily be some conflict. But I aint no damn devils advocate.

i used to own a miata with suspension mods it was the ****. i love the RWD and the drifting. and 2nd and 3rd gear actually sucks. but it's a girls car and I hate the look which is why I will hate the miata forever even though it is ******* fun as hell to drive

CRX is still a better everyday and much more versatile car than the miata, even though i'd agree the miata is probably the better handling car. You just can't throw your extra tires and all your junk in the back of a miata and go to an auto-x, can ya....

personally, I think the miata is great, its everything it should be, nimble and fun to drive, not the fastest, but its not designed to be........not as good looking as the CRX, but I really don't think its fair to compare, different class.....(RWD convertible vs. FWD coupe)......
