Last Saturday I went to put in new spark plugs and checked my timing. I was sort of shocked to find out it was at 14*BTDC. I thought it would be a lot more advanced since I failed emissions a couple weeks ago, I thought too far advanced timing was the problem. So now I realize my timing is retarded. Is that correct, large number means more advanced, smaller means more retarded? It seemed to be pointing at the mark closest to the TDC mark which I believe would go 18-16-14, so it should be at 14. My Helms says a Si engine is supposed to be at about 18*. What timings are you guys usuing. How much can I advance it for a little better performance. I now sort of realize why my car has decent bottom end but it just gets crappy up top.
