Close to buying new wheels.... 16" or 17" ... and tire weight
After searching here for hours, trying to figure out what size to get and will weight of the wheel be THAT serious of an issue, I'm still not sure. The plan as of now is to get 16" Rota Subzeros (claimed 14.5 lbs) with Toyo T1-Ss in 205/45/16 . I am currently rolling on my OEM GS-R wheels with 205/50/15s, and do not want to make a drastic decrease (hopefully none if possible) in acceleration and steering response due to interia and rolling resisitance.
Plan B is 17" Rota Subzeros (claimed 16.5 lbs) with T1-Ss in 205/40/17. Is the 2 full pounds going to be very noticeable? From previous searches, most people posted "no" or "it's tough to notice".
Also, I've searched and searched for the post on tire weights from earlier this summer..... I know I remember reading it! Any insight on weight differences from 205/50/15 to 205/45/16 to 205(or 215)/40/17 would be a big help. If I'm missing something here please lemme know.... I just got off work and quite tired.
Thanks to all!

Aaron, to me, tire weight makes a difference. This spring, I put on new Yoko A520s, which replaced my well worn AVSi (they were down to slicks). I wish I knew the weight difference between the two, but I could tell you that the car was noticeably slower off the line with the A520s. Having run all summer on them, I don't notice the difference now.
The difference certainly wasn't huge, but like I said, it was noticeable.
Now, will you notice a difference going from the OEM wheels to a 17" 16.5 lbs wheel? I doubt it. Depends on how much the OEM wheel weighs. But if you started with the 14.5 lbs wheel and then moved to the 16.5 lbs wheel you might.
BTW if you aren't doing anything on Sunday, stop on by Miller Park. I'll be running the MSCC autocross in the Dodgers/Mets lot.
