Blew head gasket, water got in cylinder and it's rusted. How do i get the rust off?

Blew head gasket, water got in cylinder and it's rusted. How do i get the rust off?
I'm getting the head resurfaced but the cylinder walls have rust but not too bad. Someone told me too use a brillo pad. Does anyone else have any ideas?Would the brillo pad be a smart idea?

if it's not to bad i would spray it down with wd40 and take some 1000 grit sandpaper to it.

either do what torr said, or depending on how bad it is you may just want to hone it a tiny bit.
