VSS Sensor on a CRX!
hey guys,
My 89 teg ecu keeps shooting a code 17, and well my car doesnt have a variable speed sesor on it. I have an 89' crx with a zc swap. I had a hatch with the same engine and it never did this. After i crashed that car and swapped the zc into the crx it has been running on the default mode which blows and make the car run like crap. Is there anything i can do to fix this problem. Also i just bought another computer hope'ing that the ecu was bad and it didnt help at all. It ran awesome until the engine light came on and back to crap. Any info will help me a ton.
thanks: Ian

Does your speedometer work right now? I know that in my hatch with SOHC VTEC swap i get code 17 VSS code because the cable popped out of the tranny because the clip that holds the cable in the speedometer gear came out. Check and see if the clip is present, and also that the cable it fully engaged in the tranny. If all this checks out...then make sure the connection the back of the gauge pod is tight...all else fails...deal with it...

Yep, I had the same issue with mine... I was getting a code 17 and my speedometer wasn't working. Check the cable in the trans, it worked for me.

thanks a lot guys i appreciate the reply's. I remember when i changed the speedo cable and the clip seemed lose. It might of come off so that might be my answer if it is this easy iam gonna kick myself real hard. I should get it on video and send it to you guys if your right. But if it does not work. I might need the wiring diagram so i can wire up a vss sensor. So thanks again

CRX does have a VSS, its behind the guage cluster where the speedometer hooks in. its likely something is wrong with your speedo cable. or there might be abad electrical connection to your guage cluster. start to figure it out by cleaning the contact terminals on the plug and circuitboard.
