Try and borrow a cherry picker for 2 days? I'm sure you can find a little square area to leave your motor for a couple hours.. Motors aren't the size of cars you can leave it in the corner of a driveway covered up while you paint or something..

A few guys I know have done it. Just tape off everything you can like the wiring harness and stuff on fire wall and put a bag over you motor. I can come out pretty good actually.

the shop guy was like... "yea, I just taped everything up, takes about 10 minutes"

it was very clean!

I've seen pictures of someone's car on honda-tech getting the bay painted with the engine in it. I think it was "for hybrids."

get masking tape, wire, and some kind of paper to mask off the motor. now try to unplug everything u can on the sides of the bay. unbolt, bag and label anything u can on the core support and sides of bay. also unbolt anything u can on the firewall. with the wire, wrap around and pull hardlines, wire harness and whatevr else there is on the sides, firewall and core support. ie wire the engine harness on the right and left side together so theyre laying on top of the engine. u want everything to be as close or on top of the engine as u can. remove the battery and fuse box. im pretty sure u get the idea of that part. now with everything wired towards the center of the bay cover it with whatever paper u have and tape it to the engine and tranny. mask off what u couldnt get close to the engine. u can even use aluminum foil to wrap around the firewall wire harness(which u can also pull out of the firewall a lil and tape to the windshield), master cylinder, tape the brake booster and clutch actuator. if u can or want, remove the resivour for the clutch so u can get paint in that area. either tape off the motor mounts, or support your engine underneath and remove the upper tranny and block mounts. u can also jack up the car and unbolt the shocks and upper A-arms now use simple green a bucket of water and scotch brite to prep the bay for paint dont forget the lower portion of your firewall. ive seen bays that were painted with the motor still in and u could see alot of missed areas on the firewall. after u prep, clean the areas (bodyshops use some kind of spray that u put on then wipe off) and paint. sounds like alot but it really isnt should take u like 30min-1hr. i also suggest goin to your local body shop or supply store and ask about what materials to prep with, ie what color scotch brite and what cleaning spray. if u have any more questions or need more specifics PM me.

ok, now here's the catch. All these doods above that painted their engine bay with the motor still in all have SOHC motors! Damn, painting the engine bay with a DOHC engine in the car is not going to happen unless you like Ghetto style paint jobs

kinda of a crapy pic but you get the idea. i painted my engine bay the same time i painted my car. i didnt pull the motor all i did was take the IM off and unbolt and disconnect some wires and tape them in a ball where your lntake manifold was.

engine bay looks awsome.. its not hard to paint the bay without taking the motor out.. just have to know wat to tape.. good job on the paint

it is very possible to paint bay w/ DOHC as bdicustoms just showed. i use to work at a body shop and we did a 95 eclipse bay like that which has less room then a honda. it just takes time and patience and u can make it look like u pull the engine and stripped the bay. ill see if i can get the pics from the eclipse

did u just disconnect the harness off the fuse box and tape it up with the motor or did u remove the harness completely? Im gonna be using pour 14 its what they paint chassis with to prevent rust damage and it has a nice flat/semi glossy look to it and it can be brushed on.
