Default spring loaded bolts on bottom of tranny?

#8 in this picture

I swapped in a new tranny this weekend. My new tranny didn't have two of these spring loaded bolts, so I took them from my old tranny. Turns out afterwards my friends found two ball bearings on the ground, that looks like they go in the channel with those bolts.

I am no doubt picking some up and replacing them ASAP, but I am curious as to what they do? Any ideas?
