Default has anyone had trouble passing emissions w/magnaflow cats?

has anyone had trouble passing emissions w/magnaflow cats? i have a 2.5" magnaflow cat on w/a jdm 4-1 header on my gsr swap in my eg coupe. i have failed emissions 3 damn times now and it is driving me up the wall!!! the first time i went in with a stock gsr exhaust mani and a stock cat. i failed but my timing was advanced. so i set my timing as close to stock as i could, then went back. still failed but the readings (nox, hydrocarbons) went way down. so i took off my stock cat and found a huge hole in the back..the thing was literally fried. so that leads to now. i put a jdm 4-1 on w/a 2.5" magnaflow cat...brand new...and it fails again...this time my readings are worse!!! this is a new cat...what the hell! anyone have any ideas?

yup. theres a reason why stock cats are so damn expensive. they are damn good at cleaning up emissions hands down. what your emissions numbers and what are u running?

If you fail emissions its not your cat converter, its your engine. Cat converters are just a band aid slapped on there to help compensate for engine wear, lack of maintenance etc. But your engine would pass w/out a cat at all if it was perfect. Especially a honda engine.

You should fix whatever fried your stock cat to begin with. You're probably burning oil/coolant, or too much fuel. Show your readings to someone that can interpret them.

Cat converter is the last thing you should repair in desperation to pass smog. You need to do the full tune up, test the injectors, fpr, o2 sensor, check for codes and everything else.
