New to imports and RSX
I have done the search thing a lot and picked up some good info. I do have a few questions though. I just picked up a 02 RSX Type S with low mileage. I use it as my car to get back and forth to work but I want more speed. I already have an AEM Air Intake (not hooked up yet), I am looking at the Greddy EVO exhaust because I want something quiet and eventually I am going to drop it about an inch, change the shocks and maybe pick up the A Spec 17 inch rims.
I see that this might get me a 14.5 run but I really want 13s. Without a turbo and dumping huge amounts of cash into the car what can I do? Will a Hondata do it? What else would I need? I want to car to remain reliable and get pretty good gas mileage. With the air intake and exhaust is this possible for $1000 or less?
I searched and searched and couldn't find a straight answer so sorry if this is a repost. I am on a Maxima forum and Jeep forum but just a Noob to the import world. Any help would be appreciated.

Hondata is a good next step, it will free up the most horsepower than the bolt ons (other than a turbo/sc of course). If you want, a good header would be a good step too, like the Type-R header which is on eBay for around $350+
Other things for better times would be suspension and tires/wheels. Tires are important when running for time on a track, the stock rollers suck. Suspension should tighten the handeling which in turn allows for slightly better times.
Practice also, nothing beats being a good drive
Good luck, hope this helped a bit with the pecking order.

oh, and not to pimp out another forum, but you can find tons and tons of good information about our car at the ClubRSX forums. http//www.clubrsx.com/
Check the Performance and NA forums.

A friend of mine (underpressure02) on here told me about http://www.clubrsx.com already. He saw a bunch of cars with the stickers at Etown this past weekend. So you didn't do anything wrong.
Will the header make a huge difference in sound? With the hondata it looks like it needs to be programmed or and either bought outride or swapped? How do I get it tuned? And would a used Hondata be any worse then a new one?
Thanks.

The Hondata is a reflash... you cant really get one used... you gotta send your ecu, immobi, and key to a dealer to get it reprogrammed... and while you're at it, get the hondata gasket. It separates the intake manifold from the block leading to cooler intake temperatures...
Well bro you can do alot of things to your car to put you into the 13's. But with a budget of 1000, this may be a problem.
First off you will need sticker tires. Falken Azenis will do very well for you.
You already have an intake which is a good purchase.
The greddy exhaust is decent and will help you out.
A header would be great, but the current "shorty" header is worthless. You will need a race header. These can be pricey.
Comptech race header= 1100 with adapter.
Jackson Race Header = 550.00
Toda Race header= 1100.00
Either one of these would be great.
Hondata would be another good purchase to help you reach your goal.
You can do alot to reach your goals, but you will need the cash.
Good luck bro.

Ok my budget isn't $1000 but I wanted to see if it was possible what the least amount would be. I can spend more if needed but if it is going to cost me $4000 to run a 13.99 then I won't even try it right now. I might do rims/tires soon but would rather do the stuff to make it go faster and get it out of the way. The sleeper look is always good too. A racing header would be loud I think. Plus I have to eliminate the cat and I dunno if that is such a good idea with the fines you have to pay if you get caught. How much would a Hondata cost me total? What am I looking at with intake, exhaust, hondata and maybe a shorty header for 1/4 times?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Im just curious where you are getting your information.... You dont necessarily lose the cat by putting on a racing header... the JR header comes with the test pipe, if you want to use it... as for the sound, thats what a muffler is for. Of course this varies from application to application, but you get the picture...
Gotcha... Maybe I took the fact that everyone didn't use a cat as it eliminated it. I don't want it loud though so IMO it would be? No? Sorry for going on and on with this. I read all the old posts here but maybe took some the wrong way.
Well you already have an Intake. So next step would be exhaust, so your lookin about ~550 for a decent exhaust system.
Hondata - 600
Race header - ~600 for Comptech I believe. You don't have to eliminate the cat, you can have a shop weld one in place.
High Flow Cat - 200? Never really looked these up
That could get you into the 13s, but good luck on the stock tires
. Feel free to correct me on anything if i'm wrong, but I believe I have read a few people gettin into the 13s with this type of setup.

With the comptech race header you are looking at 900 + another 125 for the adapter.
If you go with a shorty header you are looking at around 400-500 dollars and dont plan on gaining anything. A few people have had and dyno'd the header with little to no gains. In some dynos on the shorty header peopled lost hp, and gained about .04 pounds of torque.
Good luck with which ever route you choose.

OK. So from what I hear and have read if I go with the follow I can get into the 13s.
1. ECU reprogrammed by Hondata
2. Hondata gasket
3. Header
4. Greddy Evo exhaust
5. AEM intake
6. Better springs, shocks and tires
This wouldn't cost that much. Under $3000. What if I had a $3000 limit? No turbo or superchargers though. Any more ideas? I want to start modding soon. Thanks.

Theres a lot of ways of getting into the 13's...alot of people might tell you to get "THIS" and to get "THAT"...it all depends on how much you want to invest in youre car. If you really want high performance upgardes then you might consider in spending a little more than 3k$. Also, it all depends on how well you drive to get really good times.
Well it is going to be my commuter car but I want to make it faster. I can dump as much needed but I want to do it for as little as possible. Over time I wouldn't care but I am looking for 13s this summer or fall. As for driving I just need to practice launching and better tires.
im was in the same quest for 13's ...but at the moment im taking a break...best time so far was 14.3...but i dont consider myself the best driver...
this is what i recommend for 13's
- cold air intake
- hondata 4 or pro K
- es motor mount inserts
- good tires (falken azenis)
- race header jr/comptech/toda
- a good full exhuast
- decent suspension
i think 13's have been done with just good tires, hondata, cai, and exhuast, and a very good driver...

first off..there spelled azenis...second i never said they were the best to drag with...if you own an rsx you'd know that stock tires suck *** launching off the line...i know these tires arent specified for drag racing..hell if u wanted the best tire for drag racing go slicked down. i went frm stock to azenis to drag radials...and i know that azenis are decent and can produce decent 60 ft times..but arent the best. i dont think u should be saying they arent good drag racing tires when tons of ff street cars use them at the drag strip to grip.

i never ran on slicks....
i run on either 215/45/16 falken azenis or my 205/45/16 nitto nt555r drag radials....my 60 ft's were low 2.1's ....i've seen people do 2.0's on azenis (better driver of course). the best i ran was at fontana i posted a 14.3@96 and my tranny took a ****. supposedly the set up im running is capable of doing 13's...but i dont consider myself the best driver.

Nice... Thats what I wanted to hear... Well the part where its possible.
When you said your tranny took a **** what do you mean? Did you complete the run or was it after?
Thanks.

it was after the run...the teeth in the differential and spider gear cracked due to aggressive shifting and pegg-legging off the line. i also cracked the tranny housing according to the techs at acura....it was replaced under one time good will...but they didnt do a good job in the rebuild in my opinion.
