Would a 1000 watta amp blow my speakers?
Hey everyone, i can get a good deal on a crappy legacy 1000 watt 4 channel amp, i have infinity kappa coaxials in the rear-and i am upgrading to some infinity reference components in the front-each speaker can handle like 100 rms.
I know the amp sucks but i know the sound quality would change greatly and it would be alot louder with an amp powering it-even tho it is a legacy do you think it would blow them? thanks

anybody-would it be alright to just turn down the gains?
also-would i lose the capability to fade the speakers? i only have one set of audio output wires going to the amp

ok......
I just realized that since i only have on set of output wires ran from my cd player to my amp only 2 of the channels would work right? so then i would have to go and get another set of output wires to run to my amp so i could have all 4 channels correct?
Another question-I only have 2 sets of amp outputs on my cd player-how can i hook up a 4 channel amp and a mono sub amp to a cd player that only has 2 amp outputs?

You can divide the RCA out by using two RCA "Y" but it also changes your signal inpedance.
To fade, you can only use the gain controls from the amp. Ch 1 and 2 for the fronts and Ch. 3 and 4 for the rears, or viceversa.

You can use a crossover network or split the signal with RCA "Y"s. First option sounds better.

Yeah i just found out that they make the Y things so i could do that-But back to the first question, do you think i will be ok with the "1000" amp powering my speakers?
You'll be fine as long as you know how to adjust the gains and level controls. Just listen for distortion at the sound level you usually listen music to, then turn gains down.
Note: Equalization is important too.

ok.. bro.. if its a mono amp.. then you gota worry, if its a 4 channel amp or 2 channel amp.. 1000 watts doesnt go to each speaker.. take it like this... its 250x4 speakers... to get the 1000 watts, you gota bridge the amp..
and 250 is alot for most door speakers.. unless there 6x9's or something.. so just make sure you have the crossover to high so u can filter down the lows.. or if u dont have a sub, just leave it as is, but turn the gain down and the amp vol down.. and/or make sure ur bass or anything isnt up 7+ on the settings on ur deck.. that'll help protect you..
