Default Transmission

My friend's car, 95 prelude vtec, equipped with act clutch, extreme pressure plate. When the engine is not on the shifter goes into gear fine, but when the car is started, it doesn't go in any gear easily. Eventually after some kind of method, shaking/trying 2nd, 3rd (but unsuccessful), he could get it into first gear then it could go into any gear after that if he doesn't release the clutch. Also sometimes it wouldn't go into reverse (car is completely stopped, engine on or off), like something is blocking it completely and sometimes when it would go into reverse it gets stuck in reverse. He is replacing the transmission soon but would like to know if any other factors could be causing the problem so his new transmission would not get messed up.
Thanks

Bleed the hydro system.

IF that doesn't work, replace the master clutch and slave cylinders. 85% of the time that's what's wrong, especially with the xtreme pp.

After that... THEN do the tranny.

That was starting to happen to me, so I replaced the slave and master cylinder and now it works good

Correct me if I'm wrong. Bleeding or changing the clutch cylinders will help the shifter getting into gear while the engine is on. What would cause the shifter not being able to get into reverse while the engine is off?

Thanks

Helped out on mine. But then again, I've never owned a manual that didn't give a little trouble getting into reverse. Throw it in second, then reverse while sitting still and see if that helps.
