Best Tire in terms of Tread Wear/Endurance
Hi, I'm planning on getting some 215/45/17 tires and I was wondering what tire would last me the longest for daily driving (no autoxing, no racing).
Also is it a good idea to buy wheel/tire packages online(cheaper)? Or would it be better to buy the tires and wheels seperately(a store told me this was a better idea so the wheels and tires would be balanced better)?

kumho's are pretty decent everyday tires... and with endurance and tread, it all depends on your driving habits also... if you like to chirp every light, they wont be there long...

i'm riding on pirelli pzero nero m&s (the all season tires) and they are perfect for what i need (which sounds a lot like what you use your car for as well)...the grip is great, the tread wear is great, and it seems like the tires get better as the weather or conditions get worse...they may cost a little more than some other brands, but damn, these tires are perfect...and also, i'd say you get you what you pay for in terms of tire quality...
What do you guys think of Nanking NS-2 tires? I just ordered a wheel package that comes with these tires. I think the treadwear rating was like 340.

I had those on my car... I guess the treadwear is ok... But for grabbing the road...
it was crap...Squeals like a pig on turns
Those tires break loose very easily. Go with kumho ecsta supras 712s. the have a 280 treadwear and pretty damn sticky for an all season tire, so are falken grb fk-451

damn that sucks!! How and when did the tires start breaking loose? They guy told me they should last atleast 25,000 miles if I drive normally and get my car aligned when I should.

Like i said for a 340 treadwear... they'll last... Is your car lowered? If it is i dont think any tire will last 25,000 miles... possibly with a camber kit and grandma driving.... But if you're going to take your car hard on turns... its not going to last that long. The tires started to break loose immediately on a bit higher speed turns... When you get a high treadwear... The compound is usually harder, which in turn isnt sticky to the ground... which will make you break loose like a biatch!

Some tires will last that long, mine last more than 25000, of course it's my beater, not lowered but not grandma driving tho'
There's some tire with alot of thread wear but becareful, some tire manufactor make the thread so hard that the tire wouldnt stick well. another sign of those tires is that it begin to have mini-spider web crack way before the thread is running skinny.
one more note, you cant compare company A with company B's threadwear, they wouldnt match up. threadwear is only comparable with you looking at two set of tires from the same company. Please alot notice camber, toe and other susupension issue play a large role in tire life. I redline my pos alot, i do drive fast in the corner also(there's a mini-mountain road by my place btw
), i am happy to get 25000 out of my tires off my accord.
I think i can make it with my set of kumho

i've had kumhos ecsta's, they're okay... mine have cracked and bubbled on the sidewall. living in nebraska, they're not a great all-season tire, but maybe in CA.
how you guys like falken ziex's?

I have Falken ZE-512s right now AKA Ziex's.....The tread wear and endurance isn't really that great. In snow you'll be sliding/slipping a lot on your tires. The grip is pretty good IMO. For endurance I wouldn't say they would last very long on a trip without melting as you drive =]. My tires literally melt as I drive on the Mt. Roads. You can see on the tires there are signs of over heating tires because of hard cornering

I second Nick H on the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S. I bought a full set for a lil over 500 on tirerack.com. I had the full set for around 12,000 miles with spirited driving, when I managed to blow 2 of them. (completely my ignorance, not the tire's fault) I replaced them with the Falken Ziex 512's since they were the only things available in my size that i could get within 3 days. Since then I've been rotating them normally despite the Pirelli's previous tread wear, and 11,000 miles later, the stupid Falken's have actually caught up with the 2 existing Pirelli's in tread wear, both measuring 5/32".
The Pirelli's are extremely good for dry weather traction, and handle rain like a champ. They definately put any Kumho's to shame. (again, from experience) The outstanding build quality, design, longevity, ride comfort, and performance both straight line and cornering seem like an impossible combination, but Pirelli's done it! Don't get ripped at places like Sears, where these sell for 240 each. TireRack.com has your size for a mere $118 each, and $40 bucks for second day shipping. With conservative driving, who knows how long they'll last.
And BTW... while you're at tirerack, just check the test and survey results for Ultra-High Performanc All-Season Tires. Pirelli is always on top.

if you honestly want tires that will last a billion years, Yokohma Avid Tourer's...not sure if they come in that size, but they're guarenteed for like 90,000 miles or something...ive put like 7000 miles on a 2" drop w/o a camber kit, and without rotating my tires, and there is minimal tread wear...(im not rotating them because im getting new wheels/tires soon)
I have Yokohama Avid H4s, sized 215-45-17. 15,000 miles on them so far and they still look brand new. I'll easily get more than 60,000 miles out of them. TireRack lists them as High Performance All-Season tires. Both dry and wet grip are great... Road noise is minimal to none.
Toyo Spectrums sport a 490 rating. I've run them on my "88, and three '97's
the '88 has 228,000 clocked with the Toyo's contributing 103,000 (stiil have the injection nubs on the sholder. My personal '97 racked up 93,000 in one year ( 400+ miles per day as a drive tester for Cingular Wireless) and they're like the day I put them on.
You'll have to look at other tires in the Toyo line 'cuz the Spectrums may not cover your selection, (it's a HP/M&S tire) but their performance line certainly will
