Default need help quick. did valve adj and sparkplug replacement and smoke!

I just did a valve adj. and sparkplug replacement and when I start the car, it smokes (black). Is this normal or did I do something wrong? I think it comes from engine bay. When I remove the sparkplug, I did notice oil on the thread. Not on the tip of the plug though. Is this normal???? Why is it smoking? I'm scared to turn it back on to see if the smoke dissapates maybe it is the oil burning off.
My idle and throtttle respone seems to be fine btw.

Can incorrect valve adj be the cause?

Sounds like you got oil down in your spark plug tubes, start the car and let it burn off. And then take the plugs out and clean them.
