Default Which 5-speed tranny's will fit the B18b??????

I'm looking for a 5-speed tranny, so i jest wanna know what other tranny will fit this engine excluding the hyrdo ls tranny or the gsr tranny. Would the cable b16 trannys work? And are the b16 the tranny that have the same gear ratio as the type r's???? Thanks in advance for any info.

Cable B16 will work...

Also 92-93 cable GSR and LS trannies will work.

um, what year is your car? All b-series trannys will work hydro and cable, but you'll need to convert either way.

assuming you have a cable clutch car, then a '92-93 GSR will be the best bet as far as gearing a good 5th gear to cruize in. The only problem is it's hella rare (and is stamped the same as a '92-93 ls tranny: YS1).

you could also get a JDM b16a tranny such as the S1/J1, Y1, and YS1. The Y1 and YS1 have optional LSD. The YS1 has the tightest gearing (most rare), the S1/J1 have AWESOME gearing (5th gear winds like a bitch on the hwy cuz the gearing is short), and the Y1 gears are kinda sucky (not sucky, but not as good as the others). you can get the non-LSD JDM trannys for about $300.

The 5th gear in my '92 GSR gives me 4600 rpm at 80 mph. Not what I would call a good cruising gear.

What's wrong with a hydro GSR tranny?

You would have to get an adapter. I think place racing makes one. Maybe worth it if you plan on swapping out trannies all of the time, but for just one swap I dont think youd save that much.
