Default Dropping fuel tank question

anyone ever drop the fuel tank and looked inside? wondering if theres typically any grime or sediment in the tank worth cleaning, and if the soft filter on the pump could be worth replacing. pics would speak a million words....

The inside of my tank was completely clean. The access plate for the fuel pump was covered in grime on the outside though. If you're putting in a new fuel pump you may as well put in a new "sock".

I think your tank will be fine unless the pump is giving you problems, no reason why you should really drop it. Might end up having to replace more parts earlier then you thought because of you droping it and disturbing parts that have never been moved.

When i dropped my tank to install a new fuel pump, the inside of the tank was horrible i tried cleaning it to no avail!I just thought it would be easier to go to Autozone and buy a new tank, I think it was like 130.00 but worth it to me.

thanks, looking for replies like yours and mr S from ppl who have had to pull their tanks for one reason or another so i can get a clue as to how dirty my tank could be without doing it myself.

I just had mine out, just to look at it, clean it and brainstorm on some fuel line setup ideas. It was Grimey as heck on the top and I am glad I took it out and gave it a "once over."

i also have a 89 si. my tank was seriously built up with rust do to bad gas, or somthing. my fuel pump died. droping the tank was easy. you shouldnt have a problem. but i would buy a gas adative to clean it up as best as possible before you encouter pump problems as i did. keep a good look out on ebay i saw a crx si tank and fuel pump ( new ) sell for 100 bucks. good luck

Tyson- I know it was two and a half years ago, and you've probably done something by now, but the fitment on all the aftermarket tanks I've seen have been fine, except they don't have the drain plug in the bottom.

Yes, very ez to do. Just a few bolts. I'd say definately change the filter bag after once you got it down. And no, you wont find any grime or **** in there, unless you pissed off sum chick out there and she decided to pour sugar in there...good luck on that, cant help u there buddy.

wen you drop your tank also plan on buying fuel line
as far as cleaning it take it to a radiator repair shop and they can boil it in a costic chemical its cheaper than a new one and just as good
