Default I wanna see your wierd turbo oil return line setups. Check out my silly setup

All i can say is i tried about 15 different ways to do it and none worked. It may be hard to tell in the pic, but there's just ver 2 inches between the turbo and the oil pan fitting and about 2 inches down. Plus it's not directly in front of the other, it's offset about an 1 1/2. This has been such a bitch to do. Any hose configuration kinked no matter what hose i used. I couldn't get 2 fittings in there cause the space was so limited. So i did it household style. Used my vast home improvement knowledge and did it with plumbing copper. I'm not worried about it's function because i know it'll work, it flows downward. I just thought some of you would get a kick out of it. Plus i wanna see some other weird setups, so i know i'm not the only one.

geez. thats funky.. with such short distance between the turbo oil return flange and the oil return fitting on the oil pan (looks like about 2 inches..) honestyl this is one of the times where i would say **** the earls fittings and would have just run a 2.5 in -10an SS line and used littel hose clampss instead..... with only 2 inches of distance you wouldnt have anything to worry about ....

well the fitting of the oil pan is a 37 degree fitting and i know the earls fittings are like 20 something. So i put some teflon tape on it just incase it didn't seal correctly. And that's the least amount of bends i could use. there is no configuration that would go straight down. I was gonna use some hard line but there would have been 3 bends in that little area and it just kinked. A little advice to those doing you turbo install, don't install the oil pan fitting until your turbo's on. That would of saved me about a days work

Yeah tried that, didn't work, the hose kinked, i tried stailess steel braided, hardline, soft copper, rubber, you name it. You have to remember the fitting on the oil pan is a -10 37 degree flare, there's almost absolutely no fitting made for it. I now i work for a fitting distributor. I have 3 extra oil pans, so if i don't like it i can just do another one, but i think this will suffice.

Actually I think you have that backwards. Earl's is 37 degree, most others esp from the hardware store are 45 deg. FYI I never had any problems getting the two to seal with each other. The only issue is that the full flare doesn't seal, only a portion.

I did this when flaring some stock hardlines....the 37 degree flare tool is way expensive, where the 45 degree can be rented at Autozone for free

What you might consider (if you want to change it at this point) is to just get a cap for the fitting that's on there, and install a new fitting in another location on the pan.

When mine was messed up, I just patched up the old hole with a welder and a little scrap of metal.

wow
if you need suggestions to do it again, what about getting a nut to fit the oil pan, a but to fit the turbo flange.
then weld and actual pipe to the nuts (and of course you would need to cut the pipes at an angle to have it work...
just a thought

im thinking that the drain tap to the oil pan since its right under the turbo limits your options as far as what fittings will work for you. If you are able to do it again what about taping the pan a little further away from the turbo? it might work. Leaving the oil line like that is asking for trouble. let us know what happnes. Good luck.

I had the same problem, my oil drain wanted to kink on me.
Solution, I went to home depot and got two 3'' x 7/8th'' coil springs to put inside my 1'' oil return line. Now the hose bends without kinking. ....

What temp does solder melt at? That setup makes me nervous. Looks like you're about a half inch away from the hot side of the turbo. Yikes!

If that line doesnt hold up long enough, imo I would re tap the oil pan, at least you will be given more room to clear fittings without kinking the lines

Listen to what this person is questioning... I have known people that have brazed exhaust manifolds and they have fallen off from the heat. The solder will melt.
