I was thinking about painting my gsr-t wheels all black except the chrome part of the face of the wheel. What is the best way to prep the wheel. And what is the best paint to use for those wheels? Any tips or suggestions?

 

Duplicolor rim paint is real good. Get some duplicolor clearcoat too. You can wet sand the surface if you want, but if you clean it real well you shouldnt run into any problems with just spraying it on. Do about 3 or so thin layers of rim paint and lots of clearcoat. Thin layers. The more the better. My rims are painted gunmetal and the paint is resistant to water and washing it, but i found that there are some rock chips that are forming. Nothing big, but I can find them.

 

Where can i find that paint and what grit paper should i use to wet sand....What is your opinion on leaving the face polished? And i guess the best way to not get any on the polished face is to tape the face of the spoke off or what?

 

Are you talking about only painting the inside of the spokes?

If so I saw a set of 95 gsr wheels painted like this a few years back. It looked really nice, just take your time and make sure you prep and maks of the face real good.

you can get the paint from autozone or advanced auto parts.

 

if you're gonna wet sand find as high grit paper as possible. The higher the grit the finer the sand. You dont wany a real rough surface. Honostly I wouldnt wet sand it. Waste of time IMO. If you want to you can though, it wont hurt. And ya, autozone sells rim paint. Tons of colors. Only a couple dollars a can. I made 2 cans cover 4 wheels and I still had some left.

Yeah I saw them done to the LS wheels, I liked them alot. I want to do it to my rims too(gsr blades). Ive always wanted black rims with chrome lip Keep us posted! What color is ur car?
