CEL: Swapped ecu's and it went away. BAD IDEA?
I have a jdm h22a with a p13 4ws ecu. When i swapped the motor everythign was fine. about 2 months later the CEL went on and I didnt bother checking the code. I just asked my friend to borrow his Chipped mugen ECU (testing it out) and the CEL went away. Is this a bad idea? The car ran fine even with the CEL so I was guessing something with the 4ws? AM i hurting my engine in anyway? . Let me know thanks guys.
Another question if you guys know. When i replaced my radiator my mechanic said while he was filling her up with the motor on, said that my head gasket was going bad. He said he knew because when he was pouring in the coolant it was boiling and bubbles were coming up from the rad. cap but eventually went away. I DIdnt think anything was wrong, just air and heat since the car was running. My question is that can you actually tell that your gasket is going bad from just doing that? Or is my mechanic on crack? thanks

The CEL is most likely something emissions related, I would check the CEL light though. It takes 5 minutes to pull a code:

Your mechanic is correct about the headgasket. A good way to tell if a hg has gone bad is to run the motor with the radiator cap off. If tiny bubbles come up, that is a very good indication that the hg is slowly going bad. I would have your mechanic do a cylinder leakdown test on the motor as well as a compression test. Keep in mind, the cylinder leakdown test is more accurate then a compression test... but both of which can sometimes be misleading.

The 4WS H22 ECU is the same as the 2WS ECU. The 4WS is not monitored by the main ECU. 4WS has it's own ECU in the trunk.
That should not be causing your CEL.
