Full d16z6 swap or just the head/tranny?
I'm just curious; do you guys think it would be better to do a complete d16z6 engine with y8 tranny swap in my 90 civic si. or keep the d16a6 block; put a z6 head on it (with forged internal of course on either option) and a y8 tranny?
The full swap would be nice because I wouldn't have hardly any downtime (i could build the engine and then take a weekend and put it in), but it would cost a bit more. I will have another car by then (my daytona should be built) but I think i've fallen in love with my honda more than the 'tona.
But, either way i'd do the following to the engine: post the block, get forged rods, forged (coated maybe) pistons, performance rings, perf. bearings, and all new seals/gaskets, and a complete valvejob with maybe some home made porting/polishing.
Anyway; discuss

Are you planning to custom convert the car to accept the hydro tranny? You said Y8 tranny which is a hydro tranny. Currently there isn't a cable to hydro kit for D-series stuff... only b-series.
Other than that, it sounds like you intend to boost the engine to about 15 psi? Is that right? You didn't mention it. If you are NOT going to boost, then you can leave out some of that block work because it won't be necessary... like the posts, rods and pistons. Performance bearings probably don't even need to go in there. OEM are just fine on a stock block.

yeah; obviously boost...... probably 15 during low traction situations
30+ on race gas
i have a greddy kit now; i'd just swap until i could get a better turbo/manifold.....
and i didnt know about the tranny. ouch....
what cable tranny would work with a d-series that doesn't suck ***?

30+ and you are going to need sleeves. Stock ones aren't going to take that abuse.
A regular Si tranny should do the trick. Throw in an aftermarket LSD and you should be set.

I'm going to post the block. it should hold @ 30psi and race gas.
