Default What oil are you guys running with?

Just wondering which oils everyone is running. I use mobil one synthetic but is it really the best for our cars? and which weight is better for the car, 10w or 5w?

I use Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30 with a Purolator PureOne filter. Been using it for the last 77k miles without a problem. This is one subject that will never be agreed upon by everybody, cuz regardless of facts some people think it's great while others think it's a waste of money. Personally I think it is a little better, especially with extreme temperatures (both hot and cold). I get a lil extra piece of mind from it, so I use it.

The weight you use really depends on the climate where you're at. When I lived up north I always used 10w-30 in summer and 5w-30 in winter and that always worked just fine. Now I'm down here in hot *** south Florida, so I just use 10w-30 year round.

One tips for you, never use pennzoil oil.

i use valvoline maxlife on my 130k acura

and i usually use valvoline syn. blend for my newer accord.

oem filter are good, just dont get the fram cardboard crap.

chevron and havoline(same stuff btw) is one of the best dino(non-syn) oil out there, abunch of people at bobistheoilguy.com uses those dino and syn mix.

4qt of dino havoline and 1qt of full syn. oil= garage blend

I used to change my oil so often, I'd just buy the cheap **** from Wal-mart with STP oil treatment. Worked fine for me.

Fram tough gaurd oil filter.

In my opinion that is a really bad advice for modern engines. I made that mistake in my '90 Honda and regretted it ever since. Even after reverting back to 10W30 I still have leaks at seals.

Modern engines are made with much tighter tolerances and too much viscosity can cause irreversible problems. Stick with the factory spec even when you get to high miles.

I stick with 5w30 High milage, since I have 205k on my ride.. And a Fram DG filter.. No real issues here.. a slight leak that I am trying to find but it is probaly a bad seal.. Go with the 5-w and you would be good.. Get the good stuff and don't switch between syn and real oil. One or the other .. New car.. 2 oil changes with the real stuff then switch to syn.. Mobil one is what my wife runs..
It is all about fram!

I have been using Mobil 1 5w-30 since the first oil change with my 2000 Accord.
This is what the factory recommends and I've had no problems with it. I've tried the 10W-30 but switch back to the 5W-30...it seems to be better with the motor.

The Purolator, PureOne, or Honda OEM filters should be pretty good for the car given the cost. The Mobil 1 oil filter or other premium filters (~$10) usually have a better filter element, better internal components, and usually can withstand higher burst pressures. However, if you are looking for parts for a daily driver, then the Purolator, PureOne, or Honda OEM should be more than adequate. Good luck.

I use 10w30 in summer spring, and 5w30 in winter/fall. Havoline and chevron are the same company and are really semi synthetic oils. Priced at $1.25 a bottle. ALSO use walmart superech/equate filters.

Honda recommends 5W-30 for all conditions so you sholud be fine running that...I use 10W-30 just becasue it never gets insanely cold out here but in NY you should run 5W-30 ....

Castrol GTX 20W50 all year round, Honda filter. Currently has 212,00 miles.

Will NEVER use a Fram on any vehicle of mine.

And... I dunno if a friend of ours is an idiot, or if the people who taught him this is an idiot, but he used to run a Honda shop and went through some training about Hondas and crap. Was told that it was best to run 20W50 in a Honda, regardless of what the manual says Honda recommends... who knows...

Now, this isn't anything new about him being told that. I dunno when he started his business (much less had his training about Hondas and crap) but I know it was AT LEAST about 10 years ago, but could have been longer. I also know that my dad used to work with Hondas for 16 years, probably ending that around '95, '96, '97, somewhere around then, and he also goes along with that. Maybe it's just an old Honda thing, who knows.

Then again, my dad also said, "Never put an exhaust on your car. The computer is specifically made for THAT exhaust, so don't put a different exhaust." Not like I would anyhow since I hate exahusts on 4-bangers, but going to that extent 'cause "the computer is made for that exhaust." Like the computer HAS to remain un-modified or whatever happens with a new exhaust. He acts like doing that will kill the car.
