OK I think I know the answer to this question but I'm going to run it by you guys just to see what you think. My brake light in the dash comes on and stays on for the most part when I'm driving. If I step on the brakes the light turns off for a while and then comes back on shortly after. It seems to stay on longer if the car is cold. What do you guys think? PS ...No my E-brake is not engaged.

 

check ur brake fluid it may be low

 

it probably is just low brake fluid

 

mine did that last week, it was the brake fluid, i got a leak in my master cylinder

 

low brake fluid. or your sensor in ur MC could be messed up like my friends was. if the cap wasnt sittin on just right his brake light would come on.
