new system, no power
Today I was installing a system in my brothers car. When it was all done we were sitting there listening to it. After about 5 min. we changed cds and smoke started to come from around the cd player. We cut the car off right away and pulled the cd player out trying to find the problem. We didn't see anything wrong with it so we started the car agian and the cd player had no power. I cheked the fuse, it was fine. I changed cd players, it didn't work. When I cheked the fuse in the car there was a red wire coming from the fuse for the radio.
Does anyone know what the problem could be or what the red wire is there for?

Chances are what happend is that the radio didn't have an internal fuse, it relies on the car's fuse for the radio circuit, What probly happened is that someone couldn't find the accessory wire so they ran one from the fuse box, this isn't a bad thing if done the right way, where they probly messed up is they caught the power on the wrong side of the fuse, you should catch the power on the ending side of the fuse(meaning the side the power exits the fuse) that way if something goes wrong the fuse will still blow, what happened in your case was that is was on the entering side of the fuse so the power was still able to go through the cd player, causeing it to fry!
Sounds confusing but it's most likely what happened.
