OT: The ONLY good thing about living in Norway. (Gas Related)
Hi guys!
I thought I'd point out one of the good things about living in Norway - since there are SO many downsides when it comes to cars (I paid 27K USD in 2002 for my 98 ITR).
Shell - one of our larger Oil companies, have come up with a new "racing" formula 95 octane unleaded fuel - to the public. It is available on most Shell stations by now, and I though I'd share a few demonstration videos from Shell's .no page.

Cool!! Too bad that higher octane does absolutely nothing for you unless you are pushing insane boost and/or pretty high compression ratios...

Do you know what happens when you adjust the timing? Especially when you adjust it out of the stock range? It doesn't sound like you do...

A lot of things can happen. You can gain power. You can gain throttle response. You can lose power. It can do nothing. And yes it Could go BANG! Depends on how much you advance it.
What do you think they do when the reprogram your ecu? After they reprogram your ecu, they usually say "Must use Premium Fuel" because they advanced your timing.

Svalbard is pretty damn far up north

95 octane sucks! who needs V-power?
I don't buy it - it's just commercial **** to sell more gasoline...
I need 98 octane or higher for my ITR! Myself envy JDM-land where they got much higher octane than normal in Europe...

I'm sure there are lots of other good things about living in Norway...
- Beautiful scenery
- Beautiful women
- Fun driving roads
- Not having 1 billion Muslims around the world who want to kill you
Stuff like that.

We have 95 octane at the pumps at some stations in Greenville SC. It's about $1.85 a gallon. This is the only gas I run in my ITR.

Japan uses a different octane system than the US.
If you're putting in anything higher than 91 and it's by choice (i.e. I mean your gas station has 93 AND 95 or something like that) , you are wasting your money.

We have Shell V-Power 100octane... It`s fine in summer when it`s getting really hot on track.. The more octane you can get, the smaller the risk of engine-knock.

I guess the US have a different system than Europe too then, cause all ITRs in Europe needs 98 octan.

How Stuff Works: What does octane mean?
Gasoline FAQ: Octane
The United States uses the (RON+MON)/2 formula, properly known as the "antiknock index", for the octane rating on the pump. Other countries may not. There was a reference in the Gasoline FAQ to Europe using just the MON rating rather than the antiknock index.
