Suspension theories - coil over setup and tuning
My question about coil overs....
To me, Adjustability can be a good thing, but also, it's more for me to screw up hahaha
a good example is my stero with bass focus and delays... once I played with it, I couldn't get it back to the way it was before!!
(remind me not to touch anything again) - this would be the only thing in my opinion when looking at coil overs vs pre-tuned spring/damper package
So my question is,
What are the type of things we would have to do to "tune" our suspension? Obviously, company's spend alot of time and money on this type of thing.
Any step by step guides?
In Relation to the coil overs (ie not tyres, camber etc) One thing would be corner weight balancing .. but there are other things that would affect traction, such as centre of gravity (though height adjustment) .. spring rates (one's that are adjustable) etc...
I guess, I'm worried about stuffing up the balance rather than improving it.
You can tune to personal taste but how do you measure if it is an improvement? (other than improved laptimes) - looking for a more accurate baseline?
What other things can you do/test to tune it, and any guides to things such as...
less understeer --- a. stiffer rear b. lower rear kinda thing?
ie. so what have the guys with coil overs done so far?
How do the big boys configure their coilovers?

Experience and testing on a track.
Other than that you are just pissing in the wind. There are basic principles you can apply, but you'll still need a track and to read about 3 different books to get a handle on what you change and how it affects the car.
If it isn't driven on a track, then just adjust it for comfort. If it is driven on a track (or autox), get a logbook and record what changes you made and notes on how it affected the car. That's basically the only way to fine tune it.

I am sort of wondering the same thing as you are. I have coil overs and tokico hps on my crx. the coil overs are all the way lowered. My question is, will a raise of the coil overs make for a smoother ride and is the lowest setting the best for auto-x? I guess i could just go try it for myself but i figured i would ask.
adjusting the coilover higher will allow for a somewhat smoother ride becuz ur allowing the shock more room to travel allowing it to absorb more of the road

You set your ride height to attain your desired camber. Lower for more camber, higher for less. Technically that's how it works for a track car, for a street car set it so you don't bottom out on stuff, other than that it doesn't matter.

Thanks mate!
Which books would you recommend?
How about selecting spring rates to damper rates?
Would anyone know what the eiback spring rates are for DC2R's? ...
may be I can start off with their settings
