Installation of Body Kits
I'm fairly new to the import scene, and I was just curious: What materials and/or tools are required to install bodykits? Do they bolt on? Do you have to "glue" them on? And also, what exactly does "Type R" mean? Try not to laugh too hard at my question.
Well, first of all you need to paint the bodykit, which I would recommend if you don't know what the hell you are doing get it done by a professional. Body kits have to be bolted on to the car. And Type R to my knowledge, the "R" stands for "Racing".
SPOOCH69 has no idea what he is talking about .. .. bodykits don't have to be painted first.. hhahaa.. what a lamo.. Anyway to respond to your question.. you should never try to put one on yourself unless you are really gifted with fiberglass work. Almost all bodykits when you get them will not fit perfect.. if your satisfied with that junkie mail order look then thats fine. But out here on the West Coast we like things clean smooth. SO i would suggest to find a really good shop that has worked with fiberglass before and have them cut and add to the kit and fit it just right before putting it on. i am a great fan of molding the sideskirts and rear bumber to the car for it gives the car a superclean look. you should use a fiberglass paste mixed with a glue to fit the sideskirts on then rivit it to the car. ( makes it super strong) make sure you gouge out small pieces of the kit where you rivit it so it sits flush when done.. then you take sand paper and sand the kit down .. take a teny tiny bit of bondo and smooth out all the scraches.. then primer and paint.. simple enough.
