Default Heel and Toe and Auto-x

I'm going to my first auto-x event this weekend, and wondered if knowing how to heel and toe is a must? I've been trying to learn but still havent mastered it yet. What other techniques can I use in place of it. I can double clutch, but that seems to be way to slow during a race and besides I would have to take my foot off the brake to do that. Any ideas or tips?

At most auto-x events you will get to 2nd gear and then leave it there....

Don't worry about the heel and toe. You will have enough nerves/adrenalin that you should just concentrate on steering at first, trust me! For all practical purposes, h&t isn't really necessary for auto-x anyway, just as Flux was saying

Concentrate on looking way ahead and driving smooth.

Head over to the Competition forum and ask about first time auto-xing and you will get some great help...
