Default New to the scene, need advice and help, Thanks.

I'm new to the car tuning. I was wondering whats the best set up for the most HP and torque gains for a 95 prelude vtec. What brand is good, what brand go with what brand the best? And proof if you have any (meaning a dyno chart if possible) I live in California, and the set up have to pass smog. I've searched but cant really find anything on it. I also posted this on the Prelude section but figure I might get better help here. Thanks.

The car is for regular street driving, I'm just looking for a little extra kick. I use to drive a 1991 300zx TT and I miss the torque and HP. I'm not looking to get it up to the 300zx TT. I'm looking for maximum gains with-out turbo or supercharge. I'm looking to spend up to $2000. Stock is 190hp and 158ft/lb torque. What is the maximum gains with my budget? I was hoping to gain 30-40hp and 20-30 torque. Like I said I'm new to the scene so dont flame if what I want is not realistic.

Honestly, you may be better off boosting the motor. Search around, I'm sure that there is a company that offers a CARB-legal turbo kit....Greddy possibly?

*Edit-didn't see that you only want to spend $2K. That kinda just leaves you with doing the basics, intake, header, exhaust. Look into an Apexi VAFC and some dyno time as well. These probably won't net you the kind of gains you want, but for your budget and constraints, you are rather limited.

I might consider just getting a turbo kit. I checked Greddy but they dont have one for the 4th generation prelud. Anyone recommend a good, reliable turbo kit that is smog legal for California? Is it safe to just get a turbo kit cause my car is stock? Should I get something else first or afterward? Will the turbo mess up the vtec?

If you are set on getting a turbo system, then don't waste your money on an intake or a header. You won't use them anyway once you get a turbo kit. I thought Greddy had a bolt-on kit for your car, guess not. You might want to ask in the Prelude forum and see if you can get more insight there. I'm a CRX guy, I don't know all that much about Preludes. The turbo will not interfere in anyway with VTEC.
