Concerning EXPO 4 - please read carefully
Hi everyone!
I've been reading the ITR forum for approx. 3 years now. First post ever; I have an ITR myself. In general you seem like you are a great bunch of guys. BTW I've been drooling for the past 3 years seeing previous Expo vids, pics, and posts. I really want this one to happen as planned since I registered already and I'm a little bit tired of speculations, and of those who say the track will or won't be ready based on nothing else than pure opinions or just to discourage the organizers from doing it in VA because they'd rather have it somewhere else or because they don't have an ITR and hoping to discourage R owners to register so they can fill the remaining spots in the end...sorry for all of you that Arizona didn't work. It would have been great too. I'm sure you'll have your chance next year.
I contacted Trey on ITRCA a few times in the last months and he proved to be VERY reliable and never read a bad comment about Expo 3's organization so he has my trust 110%.
FACT IS: I don't post for no reason so please read carefully.
I've been following the latest developments concerning the completion of the Shenandoah Circuit with great interest lately like all of you guys. After seeing all the speculation around the subject and some nonconstructive posts; I decided to help shed some light on the subject...with FACTS, JUST FACTS.
Today, I contacted an engineer, friend of mine, who works at an important paving company to inquire if the completion of Shenandoah circuit would be possible, impossible, or a sure thing for the June 4th and 5th weekend. I sent her all the details (i.e. racetrack for life-size race cars not karts, banked curves, etc.), length of circuit, circuit map from ITRCA Expo 4 page, and all the pics that I could find about what's completed and left to do as of today's date.
The answer was: for a racetrack that is 30-40 feet wide and 2-2.5 miles long, it takes maximum a week to lay the pavement for the complete distance with only one machine working on it. Once the gravel is compacted, of course even less with more machines if you are in a hurry. After that, for better asphalt durability and flatness, it is better to let it rest for a few days but it's not mandatory; depending on what asphalt laying technique they used. According to the pics she saw, she said that with everything left to do and with good weather conditions; if they needed to, they could complete the whole thing in two weeks time tops.
I went even further; I called another paving company to get a second opinion and I was told that ONE regular size paving machine with one team of workers paves 40 000 square yards per day...you do the math.
There you have it ALL VERIFIED FACTS. Hope this helps.
In light of all that, we should not worry about track completion anymore... it WILL be ready on time. Unless they stop working on it (or for some reason track owners know that we don't) but I see no reason why they would. I say we should stick to the plan and NOT change anything because it would be a big mistake to do so. The organizers have worked long and hard to provide us a great weekend (the location had to be changed once already and I think that they did an excellent job for relocating and put forth the effort as well considering the situation. Where as, they could have just drop the gloves after AZ was cancelled. They provided us with a great opportunity to still have an Expo in VA in '04. We should all be very thankful and stay positive (as I'm sure many of you are already as well).
I hope this helps answer some concerns (I can understand because before today I had some doubts myself about track completion), so Trey and company can continue to work making this EXPO the best ever instead of having to deal with worries and spending time trying to relocate the event almost till the end, when in fact it is not necessary after all...
Hope that I haven't offended anyone, just trying to do my part because I really want this to work
See you guys in Virginia!

See you guys in Virginia!
I have to disagree with you on the paving matter.
I work in the property management industry with Homeowners Associations and Condominium complexs where we are repaving roads every 12-15 years and resealing every 2-3 years. A good company is of course going to have more than one roller & asphalt truck. You see the interstates and county roads and they always have more than 1 truck laying the asphalt with 2-3 rollers coming behind it with the heat, then a 3rd group of rollers evening it out. They can do more than 40000 sq. ft. in a day. If you said 40000 sq. yards, you would be more in the ballpark. All depends on how big the staff of the asphalt company they have on hand.

We'll better know what the situation is once Trey and Bill Scott next speak.
Till then ...

Welcome to the board, but this is your first post? I have to disagree with the "facts" as you put it. Your "facts" are really only speculation as well. There are too many factors involved to draw a conclusion as to when/if/how it will be completed. You gave us a good round number I suppose, but construction teams, equipment, etc vary greatly. We just need to wait and see what happens. I dont think anything has the potential to move anywhere at this point until Trey is told by the track that the event is cancelled.

I could swear I've seen this entire post before. Seems like "deja vu all over again", as Yogi Berra once put it...

From the above you can see that the event the weekend prior to the scheduled date for the ITR Expo has been canceled.
These are the ONLY facts available to us at this moment.
