Default Aftermarket b series mounts with factory style rubber

Is there a company that makes aftermarket mounts for a b-series inta a crx that utilizes rubber instead of polyurethane mounts? I had a crx befre with HAsport mounts, and I couldnt stand the damn vibrations. If there were factory rubber inserts in there instead of poly, it would have been alot smoother for daily driving. Yeah, you might get a little more wheel hop, but stiffening just the rear mount would help that.

There doesn't seem to be a manufacturer that wants to step up and do them.

I built my own.

yeah, no one has rubber stock-like mounts for us. most cars (EG/DC...) end up going with urethane inserts, for racing anyways. most all aftermarket companies use sell stiffer mounts. so in building a mount kit, why not take it a step further and use urethane? thats what PR,HASport,HCP,...did and i like that fact that they did it. two things taken care of with one purchase. i dont have to go and buy inserts now. but thats me. i like the stiffer mounts.

your other option is do it the old skool way, and weld in a DA tranny bracket. then you can use OEM mounts. i thought about that, but didn't trust engine alignment.

Has anyone tried getting the bushings pressed out and having rubber ones put in?

The problem with trying that is locating something that is remotely close. It has to have a steel outter collar and also a steel inner collar. To do an exact replacement, it would have to have the center collar in the center (the Jaguar ones I used are "off-set")

I don't know what grade steel Place Racing uses, but it's just some form of mild steel. Other that the fact that they have urathane bushings, I think that they are fine as is (except for the fact that they wanted to charge me around 20 bucks a mount to have them powder coated black and not blue).

I went with stainless due to it's being stronger (try drilling some with a standard drill bit) and was toying with the idea of polishing them when done. I didn't, due to the fact that my welds didn't come out all that pretty. The design is slightly different than how Place does theirs, but they are dimensionally the same.

The B18C went in real well and I can even close the stock hood (89 hatchback).

If I was interested in running a turbo, I'd have fashioned them after the Hasport ones (engine closer to the firewall).

I know that LHT performance in Florida makes their own mounts for their swaps. They may not have the best website, but their cars are top notch. Maybe all my free advertising for them will score me one of their lht watercooled superchargers.
They updated their site!
They know their crap well I think.

90 CRX-HF,B20Vtec block GE sleeved and bore to 86mm using Endyn
pistons, Eagle rods , Stock type R head. Supercharged with an LHT Intercooler, LHT
"S" tube and LHT Header.
Last dynoed @ 288 whp and 212tq on pump gas and a 2.5" exhaust. This car is
driven daily and reatians A/C, heat and gets 28mpg in the city 34 hwy.

c the rubber mounts?

Rubber mounts would be sweet.. My poly mounts are starting to really drive me nuts after a couple years driving the car every day.

The Jaguar bushings cost about 20 bucks each at the dealer. I'd like to know what cost a manufacturer could get them for if bought in volume.

Wes V, have you got your mounts in yet? If so, how do you like them?

I've been really wanting some rubber mounts for a B series in a 4th gen.

Does LHT sell their mounts?

Jonathan;

The mounts are in, (B18C in 89 SI) however I haven't finished the wiring yet. So the car isn't running yet.

Due to my current work load, it may be a couple weeks.

I'm not out to say anything negative about the major mount manufacturers, however;

When a company is currently selling all of the product that they can produce, there is no incentive to change that product! It's only when another company comes out with a different product that effects their sales that a change is made.

I see. Well the mounts look great regardless

I doubt Hasport would ever do non solid mounts unless the demand is just overwhelming, which sadly, it is not. They seem pretty proud of their three mount design systems; as if having only 3 mounts is some kind of engineering marval.

the original hcp mounts were pretty good, it used a 90-91 integra drivers side mount, with adapter s for the tranny mount and rear mount so u use the original factory mounts.

hmmm, i thought a part of the reason hasport went with poly was because it only uses three mounts... therefore, stiff bushings would reduce the amount of twist the engine would create.

Due to the fact that this string seems to be directed at Hasport (which I didn't intend), I'd like to throw out a couple of my personal thoughts;

I think that as a company, Hasport should be considered as one of the founding God's. They sell a well engineered product for a reasonable price (particulary when you think about the R&D time). They have put up a web site that helps promote the hobby with solid and correct information (for the past several years, the Place Racing web site has been nothing more than a title page!) Although it is a form of self-promotion, they do a lot of articles in the import magazines getting even more information out there. I've heard of their mounts breaking (nothing is perfect) and it's normally commented that they are replacing the damaged unit with a new one.

My feeling about why companies use urethane is that it's an easy and cost effective way to make a mount. The cost of having rubber bushings custom molded would put the total cost of the mounts out of a reasonable price range.

When I decided to build my own rubber mounts, I spent a LOT of time trying to find rubber bushings that would fit what I wanted to do!!! I went to a major supplier here in Los Angeles and dug through most of his stock and found nothing. This covered both import and domestic cars. The Jaguar bushing that I ended up using is a chassis bushing and isn't listed in any "motor mount" catalog. I found it as a result of talking to a friend that owns a street rod shop and does a lot of Jag rear-end conversions.

Props on the mounts man. Did you return the Place Racing mounts after you copied them? Another suggestion to the rubber bushings would be to use some from the JDM Civic/CRX SiR, but locating them is another story...

I didn't intend to add any more to this string, but I HAVE to respond to the question as to if I returned the mounts to Place Racing after making jigs off of them. The answer is NO! I paid full retail. I originally made the mounts for a red 89 that I had. When I sold the car, I gave the kid that bought it the Place Racing mounts. He used them to install a B16.

I'd personally think that I was doing something un-ethical if I sold the original mounts or made mounts for other individuals. I've been asked if I would make others, and the answer is NO. Besides the ethical question, it was a TON of work with the limited shop that I have.

I asked this question a while back. Brian G said they do not have that as an option and oem bushing would never work.

they do offer different sets of stiffness but the sofest is still damn hard....

The reason OEM bushings would not work is because they won't take the time to design a fourth mount for the kits. Not saying they're lazy, not good at what they do etc....they just, ultimately, have no need to do the R & D for it.

I swear, if I hear 'But you don't need a fourth mount, three is enough!' one more time I'm just going to make my own like Wes did.
