O.K. guys! I just came back from the acura dealer and the rack bushings did not solve my problem. They said they were ordering a new rack, and they said that it will hopefully solve my problem, but they're not sure. Has anyone ever replaced there steering rack in a ITR before? No one seems to have had this problem before and if not the steering rack then where could the noise be coming from?
P.S. Not at first, but now I'm starting to feel a little play in my steering while driving, and at a dead stop it's much louder than before. It got even louder after I had acura replace the rack bushings.
PLEASE READ MY OLD POST BELOW.
Right before my first oil change, I noticed that at a stand still when I turn my
steering wheel slight left and right wiggling it in a sence I can hear a sound, and
feel it in the steering wheel, as if there's some play in my front end, but while
driving the steering feels tight. When I got my oil changed at Acura the machanic
told me it was normal so I blew it off. Months later I go to Acura to have a
machanic check out my clutch, which he claims is fine, however he said it sounded
like something was wrong with my steering. He gives me a apointment to have it
looked at, well that was this morning and they can't find anything wrong with it. I
watched the machanic tighten all types of bolts, put it on an alignment machine
and still they couldn't find the problem. So they told me that they were going to
call me in a few days after they call some tech line. They also said somthing about
it possiblee being in the rack, so after they call the tech line they might install one.
Has anyone come across this problem, you can't hear or feel it while moving, only
at a stand still. Or is this normal?

Well I guess I'm all alone on this one. I can't believe that I'm the only R out there that has come across this type of problem out of so many R's. Oh well maybe Acura will figure it out sometime soon.

What am I, chopped liver? As I said - have them check the bushings on the steering rack. I had this problem in two other Hondas - and replacement of the bushings solved the problem.

I had this problem. The situation is a bit different, though. I installed a momo steering wheel and experienced the same symptoms. The nut holding on the steering hub was loose. I simply torqued it to spec and all problems were solved.
Good luck
Good luck
i think BPR gave you a good place to start. do you always just ask a billion of the same questions? i think it would be good to take BPR's advice and get it checked out before you ask the same question over and over.

I just want every possibility you guys can come up with so when I go back to
Acura we can get to the source of the problem. I mean Honda-Tech members are
growing strong and only to get one or two opinions would be stupid when we all
have thousands of members to go to for advice on maybe a subject that many
have touched base with. I'm not trying to be a pain, but I thought this forum was
to have access to each other who are in the same boat or shall I say R.
Thanks for your post, as well as all others.

Acura still can't find the problem. I checked a friends R and his doesn't make any noise what so ever. SOS
Well, I know for a fact....about 2 years ago.... My dumb-as$
Hit a curb while making a tight-right curve towards the up-ramp on the free-way!
I hit the curb @ an an 45-degree angle and after the little incident My steering wheel was @ a 45-degree angle!
Rims were fine ( a little scuffed up ) but when i drove home..... i had to drive w/ my steering wheel (way off ) to the right... Straight forward ( hope i make sense) Just imagine drive on a straight road, but the steering wheel was @ a 45-degree angle....Fucked up huh????
Well driveing home I thought it was the alignment dat fucked up, but when i made a right/left turn.... the steering was UNRESPONSIVE ( should automatically turn back ) So, it
was like no Power Steering...I had to steer the wheel back manuellyafter i turn..... messed up...huh?
Well alignment was checked... it was fine but ( Goodyear automotive service ) they couldnt figure out what was wrong
Went to an -Honda-Acura shop....they checked it.... and if i remember right...recalled.........ummm it rack-steering..rack & pinion... they had to replace!
Cost hundreds on dollars... i think it was almost a Grand!!
But in your case... might be a manfuc. defect... Hope you can deal w/ them and replace it for free! If not..that might be the prob. and u might need to scoop up some money!!
Thats my opinion... hope my experience helped if.. not too badd!
