I dont see any harm in turning the car on without a downpipe, as long as you dont plan on driving it. As long is it doesnt see boost, your turbo wont get hot enough to be a problem

I have wondered this too, because I'm going to need a custom fabricated dp for my setup, which means the turbo is going to have to be on the car for the shop to take measurements, etc. I guess I'll just have to bring the manni and turbo with me and swap them out at the garage?

i would think that tuning your car in its finished state is best

not tuning, turning on like as in letting it idle, to see if everything is good until i get the downpipe.

people run open DP all the time...how would it possibly hurt the car or the turbo if you drove it?

Good question...I just drove my car this morning after I finished my turbo install last night to get my downpipe and intercooler piping made. Was a little loud..lol. No backpressure whatsoever, but seemed ok.....well see I guess...just take it easy..Good luck

Don't do it, the car will totally blow up.

You see, there is an ultrasonic sensor in the exhaust stream. It is set up so that it can detect the length of pipe in the exhaust, to make sure that it meets a saved value. If the exhaust is too short, then the ECU will double your fuel output, and the motor will explode.

The car will also talk to you and call you a moron and lock you inside before it explodes.

Cliffnotes: WHY THE HELL WOULD IT HURT ANYTHING?

Like was said earlier it will be loud.

Second if you boost you are going to have crazy boost creep. My buddy went from a 2.5 to 3.0 and 10-11psi range to 25 psi no dp would be like that bad, not this is boost creep not intial boost.

I drove my friends SR 240 without a DP....its no harm as long as there is at least a O2 hosuing or a little pipe bend to direct the exhaust gas towards the ground to avoid burning **** up. only thing as was already mentioned is, there is little to no back pressure since the exhaust is not connected which won't cause any harm

Im wondering the same, I gotta drive to the shop to get my DP made after the install. Will it be fine for 10 miles with out the motor seeing boost, could i just leave the WG open and not create boost at all? Would it be a prob then?

How did you drive it without intercooler piping? Did you just run it off a regular intake and filter?

I was going to do the same, I wouldn't think it would be a problem, I won't boost, just becuase i'm paranoid.

Listen fuckstick, the question has already been answered, a few times, by a few people. It will be fine, don't boost, and don't go on any cross country road trips.

People like you who get sufficient answers to their question then say "thanks, so blah blah blah" and ask the same question as if it wasn't just answered make me want to die.

Yes.. dont boost and dont drive it hard.. make sure you have a place for your O2 sensor tho so it is still getting a reading..

That's all you needed? That answer is wrong. So, all you needed was the wrong answer?

How about the answers given by 3-5 people above the wrong answer? They all told you that it would be fine, how about you listen to them?
