my car dieddd one me, pleasee helpppp
im driving in my 92 lude SI and as i come to a stop at a light, my dash lights come on: ABS, oil lamp... etc... all the car does is it just cranks n thats it... so i had it towed and its sitting in front of my house right now... i read on alot of other posts with people having the same problem... most ive been reading is that its either a bad dizzy or bad timing belt.. If either of these are the problem for me, would that mean that even if i tried to jumpstart the car, it still wouldnt start? And, if i do jumpstart it and it does start, what can that tell me?
im not really one of those DIY kinda people (plus i am really budgeted for cash
), but if there is ne other straight forward stuff i can check on, on my own, please help me out on that... and not really too savvy either, so hehe, kinda gimme some detail / steps i should take for suggested self diagnostics... thanx alot guys much appreciated!

well the irst 2 things to check are that you are getting fuel u to the injectors, and see if you are getting a spark
the best thing to do is remove one of the plugs have a buddy crank the car, and see if your getting a spark , also the air/fuel mixture should be getting pushed out the cylinder, see if itt smells like gas
is that all that happen you stopped and it died? no noises, no hesitation, no nothing, just died?
are you sure your not out of gas.. hehe, but it has happed b4
also depending on what kind of jump start your talking about if it ranks and doesn't start then no a jump start won't help, wether it be a rolling jump, or where someone hooks jumper cables up to your battery.

what he said then...If you are getting fuel and spark. Pull your distributor cap and have someone crank the engine. See if the distributor rotor is turning. If it is your TB did not break. (doesn't mean it didn't jump a tooth though)
Check your timing. Pull the little plug on your tranny bell housing and turn the motor until the timing marks are lined up. Check the distributor rotor to see if it is aiming right at cyl #1.
If all that seems fine... You have spark, fuel and timing is on... I would bet that it is your igniter. This is located inside the Distributor. This part is about $75-$80
It's #8 in the picture below.
yah thanx guys... i just checked one of my spark plugs and saw nothing... they are cheap/easy to replace right? But also, i thought spark plugs are just used for the initial starting up of the car, and after it starts it has no use right? if so, could there be also another reason why my car just died in the middle of no where?
if i were you, i'd replace the distributor cap and rotor first, if that doesnt work, try plugs, then last of all wires because theyre the most expensive. spark plugs are used to ignite the air/fuel mixture while the car is running, and theyre in use the whole time. you're thinking of diesel engines, which use plugs to start and then combust through adiabatic compression

make sure you touch the hex shape part of the plug to the engine, or a groiund
and your thinking of a glow plug on a deisl, those are only used on sturt up until teh engine warms up

if after you do try making sure that the end of the plug is grounded and you still have no spark. Pull the distributor cap and make sure the rotor is spinning when you crank the engine....
oh man... i feel so dumb
my friend came over to take a look at it... he noticed the plug that ran from the ignition coil to the distributor snapped off... yup to make a long story short, that was the problem and everything is great... thanx guys for all your 411 n taking the time to help me out
sorry if i wasted some of your brain cells
