Default LS?VTEC?

Im highly considering do a LS/VTEC swap for my 96 ls but im trying to find a gsr head and im getting prices anywhere from a 100 dollar to 900 dollar. Just wondering what is a good price and what all is involved money wise to make my car a ls/vtec machine. All info is much appriciated.

Gsr heads complete Ive seen for about 900 that includes the dist. and all sensors. Usually an ls/vtec set up isnt very expensive. Make sure you swap out your pistons with either itr or pr3/p30 pistons because ls cr is very low. You'd have to machine your rods when using itr/gsr pistons. I'd say the whole vtec conversion would cost around 1500 including if you are paying someone. I know a couple of guys that have done them in their garages and bought the head and access. for a good price. Good luck with the ls/vtec.

900 dollars for the head seems about right... that should include everything needed.. consider gettin the GSR tranny and a chipped p28 ecu as well....

Trust me, use a vtec trans. Never seen the gsr heads sale for 900, must have went up quite a bit since I searched for one.

get a b16 head, it will be way cheaper and you can run the itr intake manifold with it. unless you want that dual stage manifold.

If you pick up a jdm unit there a few things you should be aware of.
1. The intake does not have a vacume (spelling?) source for your evap sensor.
2. The TB also is incompatible with usdm evap setup.
3. The part of the TB that connects to the cable is "backwards." In Japan the throttle cable comes from the opposite side. You'll have to use your ls one.
4. The gas return off the fuel rail has a larger gauge than your usdm return. Also it's in between the 3rd and 4th runner. Not on the end. You'll have to use your ls fuel rail and return.

You'll need the upper two plastic piecses of the valve cover from any vtec head and dremel to modify them to fit. Your ls one wont fit the vtec head and seriously warn against running with out a valve cover.

Like type-c has said in numerous posts 'bout this...get some new valve springs if you get an older head.

If you have any incling to go fi, change out your valves now for high heat ones. If you don't know where to go for valve jobs, ask where the dealer sends their stuff.

If you decide to get into the bottom end-you might as well...
I would advise getting a gsr girdle and modding it to fit. It's cheaper than the z10 alternative. You'll also need the gsr rod bolts. Any machinist worth his salt can modify it.

Any vtec oil pump.

Oil squirters are possible, but you have very little room for error. Get forged pistons and forget about it.

Don't try the b18c oil cooler. It may or may not work depending on what year your block is and the year of the parts your sourcing. It's a big maybe.

Most importantly SOURCE you parts first. I had everything out and ended up sitting on my hands for over six weeks waiting for stuff to arrive form the mail.

Mike K. at Naples acura is a great source for oem parts (ie bearings).

Also during the course of this adventure your going to discover some things have worn out=$ be prepared to spend more than you plan. If you can handle 20% over budget you'll be okay.

Forged pistons (you don't need no stinking squirters) 500
complete head: 700
modded gsr girdle: 200
valve springs: 250
r cams: 400
bearings: 150
vtec oil pump: ?
new belts: 80
misc crap: ?
Cam gears: 200
Dyno time: ?
ecu: 100 hondata can chip your ls one for 100 last I checked
For a setup to put 200whp look at spending over 2k. That's with you and your helms doing the labor.

Almost forgot, you're going to need metric adapters for your supply. c-speed racing has a great tutorial. However it doesnt' mention you'll need 1/8" bspt to 1/8" npt nipple adapter. Swagelok and parker carry these. Summit also has an adapter, but good luck finding someone there who knows anything about pipe fittings. Also with the an fittings from that tutorial you'll need the an to npt converters as well.

are you looking for all motor? because i have dumped 5300 dollars including the nos for my ls/vtec and i still got to buy a gs-r oil pickup to work w/ the z10 girdle.
I can't say that its a waste of money yet being that my car ain't running but i soon should find out.my advice is to go turbo its cheaper and can produce more or the same amout of power as the ls/vtec.but then again it may be a little cheaper for you since you have the block already.

Yes if I were to do this all over again. I'd build the block (sleeves, rods, pistons), headwork and go FI and say hello to 400+ whp.

You should talk to wdyno about this. His Integra is an LS/VTEC. It's pretty damn quick. I'm sure he can tell you how much everything will cost.
