Default For Those of you with the ss tranny. Maybe some hope

Ok guys and gals, I been working on my tranny. First thing I did was I bought a Brand new Torque converter (650 bucks) and I sent that out To IPT for Heavy Modifications. Higher stall 800 rpm over stock RPM. Then I went ahead and ordered the Level 10 PTS kit (400$ and some change.) What I ended up doing is sending off the Rebuild kit to get it Cryo Treated. Fairly cheap (4 dollars a pound) heres and email that they sent me.

Thank you for the question
As far as the torque conv NO there are seals and components in most of them that will not like the cryo process.
As for the gearing, baskets, clutch plates, and other NON PLASTIC part it will do great. We are seeing better more solid shifts and the parts will take much more of a beating. Please remember this is not a Bullet Proof process but it is a lot better.
Trans and gearing is by the pound most trans run about $4.50 per pound plus shipping.
If you have any question please Call or Email
Regards, Be Safe

I know the SS tranny sucks but Im getting it rebuilt for cheap.. My setup is JE 9.1 CR pistons, Eagle connecting Rods, Sleeved block, balance Crank, Balanced and blue printed motor. Skunk 2 valve springs and retainers crower stage 2 turbo cams. (waiting for the cams) Jackson Racing supercharger @ 9lbs of boost. Greddy eManage. I will let you know how the tranny holds up.. Im sure it will hold up.. But this is a pretty spendy Project on the tranny. For me I got 1300 bucks in tranny parts. For the money I would do a 5 speed swap.. But if you have the cash then go for a rebuild. My car should be ready in 3 weeks..

Thanks

I would have stuck with 10:1 compression.

Yeah but I got new pistons for dirt cheap at Import builders and all he had was JE 9:1 pistons.

I don't know what to say about the tranny work except that I sincerely hope it works out for you and that the shop rebuilding it knows what they are doing with it. It's a bitch to work on and easy to **** up, a lot of people have had disappointing results with failures of reworked SS trannies.

As for your engine build, sounds very nice. Definitely keep us posted on how the e-manage works out for you. I've been pleased with my EFI PMS, and they are similar systems.

Yeah Im kind of scared of getting the tranny done but I figure I have some cash and I would like to experiment for hope that this might work out for our ss trannies. IM TAKING one for the TEAM here. Update on my Torque Converter has been modified 800 rpm over stock and with Mods to an engine the stall speed will be alot higher.. I will keep you guys updated on this PAIN in the *** Project.

Why the higher stall speed? I've spoken to tc companies and they always recommend it, but I've never understood why.

Well this is what I understand coming over from the mustang world.. Stall speed on an automatic.

Higher stall speed will give you a harder launch off the line.. Kind of like a 1st gear in a 5 speed.. For instance if our prelude it will engage at lets say 1000 RPM with no intial push off the line.. Like spooling.. With a higher stall speed you can rev to lets say 2000 RPM before TC will engage which it will give you a harder launch and what not.. I know this crude explanation but it does work quite well.. You will put more power to the front wheels. This is my understanding on TCs. kind of hard to explain.

I understand how a torque converter works. Being that the stock stall is between 2300-2500 rpm, and the JRSC produces a boatload of low end torque below the stock stall speed, I don't see the reason for increasing the stall speed up 800 rpm. Maybe on a drag car, but is this your daily driver? What's the point?

Im fixing to boost, and when confronted with the opton of building my automatic, or converting to manual. The choice was easy.

Convert it to manual, and thats what im in the process of doing

I have a 2000 SS with a Revhard stage 2 turbo kit. I also had a shop install a Hondata stage2b with an odb1 p28 automatic ECU but it only works in SS mode. It would not shift in the D mode, the shop called Hondata and said it should work. I also called Hondata and they said it should work. Had to go back on the vortech fmu and obdII ecu. Has anyone install a standalone system that can work with an automatic? Spent a lot of money on these parts which I can not use.

Yeah, I hope things work out for you and the tranny holds up. Me personally i also decided to do the 5spd swap before adding my mods.

I know that the Hondata will not work with the ss and only option I see for my setup is Greddy e manage. I finally got all my parts back and lets see what happens... I will keep you guys posted.
